Re: Minnesota Crunchers

My dam blazer won't start, I hate when it get's cold, once it get's around 25-30 below, it has a really hard time turning over, but I do have to give it some credit it is a 93

Run synthetic oil in it. That and a block heater and it will fire right up for you.

A couple of things come to mind:

1. Lighter oil. 0-30 if you can find it.

2. Fresh spark plugs and wires - basically a tuneup

3. Fresh battery with clean terminals

4. Ethanol based gas - same as putting isopropyl alcohol in the tank except it is ethanol - absorbs moisture and prevents gas line freezeup. (If you do this make sure you have a spare fuel line filter ready.)

5. Tank heater, headbolt heater, block heater etc.

6. Heated garage

Been there. It is no fun when they do not start.

But what do I know ? It is colder where you are than it is here !!! laughing

Cheers

I want to thank-you for your advice,
unfortunately their is some things I just can't do, because I live in a town house apartment and I am still unemployed with no money coming in.
The oil that is used I believe is 5/30
I was told not to spend the money on new spark plugs because my head gasket is leaking. (I think that is what they said was leaking)
battery is 3-4 years old never been disconnected since put in
I use the cheapest gas I can
I can't afford to put in a block heater
some days I would kill for a heated garage

but I don't know if the reason my blazer is not starting is due to the cold.
it started Saturday afternoon really easy let it idle for 10 min to warm up then when I went to drive off it wanted to die on me when I press the gas pedal, the blazer pretty much stopped moving the engine slowed up so much that you could liturely count how many times the pistons were firing (I don't know if you could actually count them but it seemed like that) and when it was doing all of that the blazer was shaking, when I pressed the gas peddle it died, and it took me a few extra turns to get it running again, once it started I was able to drive around 10mpr to the store, I left it idle when I went in, idled fine, when I drove back home I thought whatever the problem was done with, so I pressed on the gas peddle and it started to do the same thing, the anything I did different was let off of the gas peddle and it started to run fine again, so I drove it at 10 mpr and that night I went to start it and it would just turn over didn't even fire or anything

Hello fellows smile

I think it is more important keep tank full as possible.
Moisture is coming from air on tank. Mechanism is simply that air's capability to carry moisture will reduce with temperature, so when air is getting colder, moisture has to move somewhere from air.
If there is no air on tank, then there cannot be moisture.

Apropoo

what size of block heaters you usyally use?
Just wondering because you have those huge cars and 110V system....

We have small engines and 240V system.... So easy to melt hold car biggrin

The Census Bureau is looking for people. They pay form 12-20 bucks an hour depending on the job. My brother is trying to get a job there since he too is unemployed.

Sounds like it is flooding out. When you press on the gas the mixture is too rich and it will run very rough. Cause could be clogged air filter, or bad manifold absolute pressure sensor or oxygen sensor.

Good advice from ultima thule about keeping the gas tank full.

Another thing you might try is to go to a vocational school or a high school with an auto shop and see if they might diagnose the problem for free. If you know of anyone with a OBD-1 reader (On Board Diagnostic reader) they might be able to use that to diagnose your problem.

Hope you find a job soon.

Good luck

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

got my blazer started, I am guessing it was some ice in the lines, it didn't start until I put 2 bottles of heat in it.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Hey Brink. I received 8 of them. They are much more benign than the A's. Appears to be 4-8 hours run time. Keep warm. It was cooler here today ... only got up to 54F/6C ... biggrin
