Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Hey Joe,

Do you think we should join this challenge?

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/challe...lenge.do?challengeId=5312

Its the 8th birthday challenge for WCG. Theres already a thread for it as well. 11/16-11/22 points generated.

Would be a good way to challenge the teams seti_germany, team china, and L'alliance francophone, all of which we are very close to, except we have far fewer members.

Go for it!!!!

Congrats. Let us know how well it crunches.

Got it this morning and installed it.
It does a w/u in 2 minutes 35 seconds consistently doing one at a time. And it's so quiet!

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I heard a story about a dumb criminal of the week from one of my siblings. It seems a relative was shopping at a clothing store with some friends. They heard an announcement from the store that the owner of a particular car should report to the front. So they go to front thinking they had left their lights on, a common occurrence. However, when they get there, they are told to go to the parking lot because there is a problem. So upon getting to the parking lot the first thing they notice is the car has been moved about 2 spaces forward. There are also some witnesses who told them a man in a car had targeted that particular car and rammed it in the rear hard enough to smash in the rear end and move it the 2 spaces. When asked if they got the license number of the car they did one better and said that the license plate from the suspect vehicle had fallen off as a result of the smash. So the relative called the police, made a report and handed over the license plate. (Wait, it gets better) While the police are there taking the report and talking to the witnesses the suspect vehicle drives back in and goes to the scene of the car smash. His car is missing the front license plate and he returned to look for it. The police then do their duty and arrest him. It turns out he was having some kind of domestic dispute. He thought the car he smashed belonged to the person he was mad at, not some random stranger.
These are the kind of things I had only read about but never knew about personally until now.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Gotta love stupid criminals. Jay Leno does those once in a while on Monday nights (I believe) during his "headlines" bit. Always cracks me up.

I was working on an overclock on the Phenom II x6 1045t (2.7ghz stock) yesterday to try and bring CPU times down on GPU workunits.

Installed a Coolermaster Hyper 212 cooler along with Arctic silver 5 thermal paste. Was able to achieve an overclock of 3.9 ghz (24/7 stable) on a voltage of 1.5. This voltage is quite high however the CPU never exceeded 40 degrees C under full load with that cooler, which was amazing.

I prefer the Phenom II cores still over bulldozer and piledriver due to their emphasis on full cores, not chopped up cores.

Am very happy with the results of a less than $100 6 core cpu which now performs on par with a late generation i7 in terms of total performance. The thing the i7 has going for it is much lower power consumption. AMD is not dead yet...

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Moved up to 38 overall. Should be able to move up to 37 overall in two more weeks.

Don't you love GPU processing! The projection is only 108 days left for HCC.....and no other GPU projects in sight.

Should be able to get to 32 overall before the GPU WUs run out, if thing keeps going the way the are.
