Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Drat sad My Dell 2950 has bit the dust for moment. It is telling me there is a synchonicity error in processor 0. I was going to replace the processors anyway, so now I guess I have to sooner rather than later.
Cheers

I have a pair of 2ghz 5130 xeons dual core you can have while your waiting on your quad cores. Came out of my 2006 mac pro. You sure its not a motherboard issue?

I do not know if it is a motherboard issue because hat is the only error code I have so far. Frankly, I have never heard of it so I will have to do some research. I have a lead on a pair of 5340's. I should hear about them in the next day or 2. If that falls through I think I will take you up on the 5130's.
Thanks, I will be in touch.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Divide 1 by the number of tasks you want to run
6=.166 (1 divided by 6)
8=.125 (1 divided by 8)

I don't know how hard you can push the 7770. I'm guessing 4 would be max.
Nvidias don't scale as good as ATI so maybe start the 470 with 2(.50) and see how it does after a few days. Then add 1 at a time until you lose efficiency. I'm guessing 3 maybe 4 might be max on that one.

On a 7770, I am running 6 on an AMD 1090 (6 CPU) machine and am getting between 225000 and 275000 WUs per day.

One thing you can try is switch the processors around to see if the error goes to with it. If it still shows the same error in same socket, most likely the mobo. Also, when you remove those chips, look real close at those pins on the mobo for bent or dark color. I learned the hard way cranking down to much and bent some pins, then when trying to bend back, broke a pin. Had to send it in for repair. Another thing to look at is under the chip, look for burn/scorch marks.
You might want to grab mine to test that mobo too to insure its not the mobo. Would suck buying those chips to find out the mobo is at issue. Let me know, can get them to you asap.

Just did a quick search on your issue. Before doing anything, swap your memory modules. Insure the ones for cpu 0 move over to cpu 1 and vice versa. Those FSB dimms always run hot and could have gone bad. You didn't by chance treek this to run a bit higher?

No tweaking -runs stock. I did reseat all of the memory, but did not move the slots. Then I fired it up again this morning to get the exact wording on the error codes. Well, it had been crashing at about 15 seconds, but so far it has stayed running this morning. ???? Maybe reseating the memory did it, but I will wait and see. If it crashes again I will let you know about the chips. Thanks
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

The 8th birthday challenge is starting...but I'm already down a dual-gpu cruncher for a few days so not a good start for me.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Congrats Mclaver, that's a crazy number!

Not sure what happened yet...I'm out of town again and it just stopped producing. Maybe an internet connection problem or a frozen computer. Find out tommorow.
