"You can have a LOT of fun with people hopelessly mired in computer nuances."
Joel: Watch this. (Turns to Crow and Tom Servo) Hey! Has anyone seen the mouse to my Amiga?? Tom: Oh! Hahaha! Amiga!! Ha hah! Crow: Amiga? Oh come on! Both (hails of derisive laughter): Hahahaha!! Tom: Now THERE'S a machine for you...Hahah! Crow: Hey! Has anyone seen my FAT ANGUS drive?? Hahah! Joel: We'll be back. |

Has anyone seen my FAT ANGUS drive?? I liked it. A corruption of FAT AGNUS. Changing it from a semi-Latin phrase (Fat Lamb) to a description of a corpulent Scot. I even liked how they came up with name Agnus - Address GeNerator UnitS. Another MST3K classic. Cheers

Re: 25 days of work remaining for Help Conquer Cancer The hastening of the completion of the HCC project due to the introduction of GPU processing surprised me. Although the speedup provided by a GPU was as I expected, I thought that only a minority of members would have or acquire suitable GPUs so that the sheer numbers of CPUs crunching HCC would outweigh the contribution of the GPUs. WCG obviously now has a huge computing resource available in the form of GPUs. To be honest, the combined production of the GPU's surprised us as well. We had anticipated that with the launch of GPU we would double the daily output. instead it increased by a factor of 16-17 (before GPU we were completing ~60k/results per day with 1 image per job, we are now >500k/results per day with 2 images per job. This led to some great adventures in handling greater capacity (which we call a 'success' problem). A factor of 16-17 is absolutly mind boggling! And you all had a BIG part of this. Awesome, just awesome! ![]() |

I think even those of us with no GPU cards would like to see other GPU projects. (It might prompt us to get a card or two.) However, there is still plenty of CPU work available. Given how fast the GPU applications run I am pretty sure IF the scientists can port their application to GPU they would do so. However, it has been noted in a couple of places that some applications can not presently be parallelized (a new word ?) to take advantage of the GPU. I hope if there is no GPU work for WCG that people would put their GPU's to work on other projects of their choosing and leave their CPU resources here. Cheers

Hello fellows ![]() Two inch snow rain here Thule today, perhaps white spring or something. I know a person by Finland, Minnesota and they had about 5 inches of snow yesterday. He taps about 20 maples for syrup and he says it has been too cold for the sap to run freely. Two Harbors (a city on Lake Superior about 20 miles from Finland got about 10 inches of snow. Spring is late this year. Cheers
