Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I hope if there is no GPU work for WCG that people would put their GPU's to work on other projects of their choosing and leave their CPU resources here.
Cheers

That is my plan! But I sure hope WCG does get more GPU projects up and running soon.

I just picked up a nVidia card for my new build. Kind of anticipated GPU crunching here for a little while at least. My 12 core/24 thread beast will remain here while my 3770K rig will be doing other projects. Just started GPU GRID for the 1st time. Similar projects over there. Couldn't bring myself to look for ET. Figure if they want to chat, they will drop by. Little less than 15 years before I hit my 100 yrs crunching time at WCG. Not sure what I'll do after that though. Have a good one folks.

If you take the time, effort, and money to invest in new hardware, more power to you for finding anyplace you think is worthwhile to put it to use. BTW which Nvidia card di you get ?Keep on crunchin.

I see it is #7 on the Passmark list. Not cheap either I see. I hope it exceeds your expectations.

O0oh!

My company's travel policy determine that if destination is on Finland, then travel bill does not need to get approval thinking

I have been there. It is the location of the start of the Edmund Fitzgerald 100K relay. Myself and seven other friends and relatives did the race several times. I got to run the first leg from Finland to Beaver Bay. The race ends on the northern edge of Duluth. It was several interesting experiences. Unfortunately they had to end it in 2007.

Has and the ice and snow storm started yet where most of the Minnesota Crunchers are? Midwest weather certainly isn't boring.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Not in clearwater yet. Looks like st cloud is the target area. Thought it was over with so sold my 4 wheeler and plow. Glad I own a jeep wrangler to punch through this stuff. Hope the weatherman has the totals wrong but looks like 10-12 inches for us. Kate, looks like bad boomers in your area. Everyone stay safe.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Still not in St. Cloud either at 8:00 PM. The way the weather folks are hyping this you would think we haven't seen snow before. Now I do agree if we get the 12in(30cm) of snow they are predicting that would be a little unusual for the second week in April. However, it should not last too long because it should warm up by the weekend.
Boy, did Nobles County and the city of Worthington ever get pounded. That looks like a terrible ice storm. From the pictures it looks like about 1 inch(2.5cm) of ice is coating everything. The news said 95% of the county is out of power. I hope it does not get any worse there.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

OK, now we have snow. It is wet and heavy. The visibility is about 50 yards the wind is starting to pick up and the temperature is 30F(-1C). It looks like January outside. Pretty much everything in the St. Cloud area is cancelled for the day. I am not anticipating going anywhere for a while.
Edit: It appears we got 10 to 11in(25 to 28cm) of wet snow. It stopped snowing about 11:00 AM. It was a chore to get it shoveled, because it was heavy and stuck to the shovel. The road in front of the house is a sloppy mess.
Cheers
