Re: Minnesota Crunchers

70s here in the TCs by Saturday !!

If you know of any lakes that are open you can see an incredible amount on waterfowl species. They are trapped until more lakes open up.
I seen well over a dozen species on Highland Lake in Bloomington in a very small area. 15 Common Loons and 5 red-necked Grebes were the highlight! I saw a pair of Loons doing the courting ritual. That is a first for me! Very strange weather with some unexpected surprises!

We have had geese in the driveway, they are nesting either in the swamp or near a small pond. I can also hear the sandhill cranes(at least I think they are sandhill cranes) in the morning. They are so loud, they make the geese seem almost silent. Despite their noise, I have not been able to see them yet.
Cheers

Yes they would be Sandhill's! Very cool!! They are a neat bird. Still not sure why the DNR opened them up for hunting. frustrated

Snowing here in Iowa City -- the kind of huge flakes that I would have considered beautiful back in Nov. tongue

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Spring finally arrives tomorrow. It is supposed to hit 60F(15C) or so. It will not only be the first 50F day, but also the first 60F day. I spoke to my neighbor today and he is still planning on going ice fishing this weekend. laughing He said there is still up to 2 feet of ice where he is going. I hope to at least get my potatoes in the garden in about 2 weeks, if the weather cooperates.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Well with WCG's only GPU project winding down I've moved my GPU crunching to something unrelated, so my points/day will fall a lot. Still going to live a about a dozen or so CPU cores crunching various CPU projects here.

I am sure this will be true of most if not all of those who are GPU enabled. Some will opt to just shut down their GPU capability, but others will move on to other projects they deem worthy. There is an awful lot of just basic research out there which may not bear fruit for many years, yet it still needs to be done if we are to further the advance of knowledge. Anyway, points are fun and useful for comparative purposes, but just try to buy a cup of coffee with them. laughing Crunch on to make the world a better place.

I already moved back to cpu crunching. Think I heard my GPU grown in relief when the last GPU wu finished. It was a fun run though. Lets hope another GPU project comes along. I anticipated the end so picked up a Nvidia 660ti for my 3770k cruncher to crunch GPUgrid. Had my 7950 crunching 18 on my dually. Sure loved the points.

Boy was it great out today. Got to do some work outside today. Lets hope the summer storms are quiet this year. Have a good summer folks. wink

Yeah, it was nice. Even the bugs came out. Even as warm as it was today , I still have a little snow on the garden yet. I am sure it will be gone overnight. You are right though, I have a lot of work outside now that the weather is cooperating.
Cheers
