there's at least a few folks out there that see me as a jackass too. Tell us who they are and your homies will dispose of them!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() I understand what you are saying. However, to use your analogy, there are so many hospitals that need help and so few people willing to help. If one hospital is full of nice Dr's like Mike and another full of jackass Dr's, which one would most people willing to help gravitate to? It is as if WalMart hired a store greeter that insulted every 5th person who entered the store yet they did nothing about it. That does not happen in the real world. But this is not the real world. ![]() ![]() |

there's at least a few folks out there that see me as a jackass too. Tell us who they are and your homies will dispose of them!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Boy, you'd have some real job security with that! ![]() I understand what you are saying. ![]() Nine out of ten dissatisfied customers will never tell you they are. They go elsewhere. Kinda makes it important to listen to that one out of ten. Non-profits typically don't get to deal with plenty. A volunteer is a volunteer is a volunteer. They tend to have to tolerate a lot of things that would never last in the for-profit sector. Still, compost happens. Usually, folks grouse and that's all that happens. For someone that is particularly committed to the work of the non-profit, it's not easy to let a situation hurt the work being done. Sometimes, you have to take your concerns in a non-personal way to the leadership and show how you see the work being harmed by the situation. You can then choose to stay or go based on, or in spite of, their answer/response. When you're that fifth person walking into Wal-Mart that gets insulted, you can shop and leave, leave and shop elsewhere, or take it to management and do your shopping accordingly. Different folks will decide differently. With WCG, the work will be here. People will come and go. I've seen a lot happen in the past 4.5 years, not all good. When someone tries to pull you down, do you react on your level or on theirs? |

You cannot please 100 percent of the people 100 percent of the time.. it's not possible, nor is it even remotely a chance in today's world.. give someone a million dollars, they'll probably bitch and whine that you didn't give them two million..
----------------------------------------And truth be told, I LOVE my job.. I have major problems with self confidence, but every once in awhile I have a patient or a parent who tells me they appreciate what i've done.. and that solidifies my love for what I do, and the people I do it for.. (that's some deep stuff, huh?) I know some doctor's who can be real tools, if you know what I mean.. there's really no reason for it.. hey, i've been called all of the names in the world, but I don't stoop to their level.. :) I admit, i'm one of those who crunch for the hope of a cure, but I also like a little structure to the crunching.. Points are a plus, but I think i'm gravitating more towards # of results.. and hey, I change my mind once in awhile too.. it's all good.. I'm not sure who said that some people might think they're a jackass.. but those people will get theirs eventually.. what comes around goes around.. or some other cliche.. Dr. Mike.. P.S. If you have a child who plays baseball, try and teach them to catch the ball with the glove and not their face.. ![]() ![]() |

Luckily I have not run across anyone here that I have had a disagreement apart from the IBM guy that is charge of the project, and that was a long time ago and was over memory consumption of some of the projects. I actually thought that Advisor's opinions should be considered. Anyway, I hate it that personalities get in the way of progress on the cures/solutions (
----------------------------------------![]() I suppose that any time a group of people interact there will be conflict at some level. It truly is sad that interferes with the common objectives. Out of all this discussion my favorite comment is: ....Points/credits do tend to mean more to us than we prefer to admit in the context of why we crunch but they provide structure to our crunching. It gives us a means to recognize and encourage. It gives us a way to have form to our sense of accomplishment. It gives distance so far on the long path to success. Most recognize our diversity and humanity. For those that don't, they lose. I will crunch because of what I believe. For the jackasses, I celebrate their crunching for it has no less value than mine... It explains, better than I could, how I feel about points/credits and about tolerating those that irritate us. Thanks Keith |

BTW, we should take over the #201 spot tomorrow and the #200 on Tuesday. Around next weekend, we should move into the 190's. Pretty good for a team that has 40-45 folks returning results each day. Of course, DM, Jonathan and Blizzie getting hooked on GPU crunching and sharing the "madness" with our other "ubergeeks" is a big part of that. Everyone does what they can and boy does it add up!! Once again I'm proven wrong! ![]() ![]() |
