I just installed Ubuntu on a notebook, but I can't access the internet with the web browser...
----------------------------------------![]() In the network diagnostc it say, that all dns is ok, I can also ping servers, but I can not download the wcgrid-software... ![]() Also the security updates are currently downloading without problems, I can just not access the web with the brwoser. I already installed an other browser (called: A web browser), seems also to be firefox, but also this one is not working (proxies are disabled in the browser, so this can not be the reason). Can anyone help me please...??? ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 30, 2010 7:09:36 PM] |

You can try downloading the client with wget. Open a terminal windows and type:(32-bit)
----------------------------------------wget http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_6.10.56_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh<enter> (64-bit) http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_6.10.56_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.sh If that doesn't work, it may be a DNS problem. Go to a prompt and type: nslookup www.ibm.com<enter>What is the result? edit: added 64-bit link [Edit 3 times, last edit by pirogue at Jun 29, 2010 11:48:53 AM] |

Thanks for the tip... The wget-thing worked fine. DNS is ok, the lookup worked, but the stupid browser still does not work.
----------------------------------------Another thing: I always have to start the boinccmd manually, after the OS has booted. Is there a way to run boinc as a service, or is there any kind of a startup-folder...??? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 29, 2010 12:19:21 PM] |

If you have Ubuntu, you have the Synaptic Package Manager from which to install BOINC. After that the daemon starts automatically, before signing in.

You're welcome.Another thing: I always have to start the boinccmd manually, after the OS has booted. Is there a way to run boinc as a service, or is there any kind of a startup-folder...??? Here's something I found for the automatic start: http://www.spy-hill.com/~myers/help/boinc/unix.html#start |

I followed the instructions in this page, and the installation it self worked fine. Also when I open the boinc manager, he asks me to sign up to a project. But as soon as I click on "next", the window just closes, and that was it... ![]() I will try to uninstall it again, and use the version, I downloaded with wget... |

Uff... The installation is done, the two cores are running...
![]() Thanks to all for your help! One more question: I also had this problem with the download speed min. of 128kB (I'm running 6MBit here...). So I changed the value in the client_state.xml, now it works... But... I want to leave the mashine unattended. Can it happen, that boinc changes the value back to a smaller one, and won't get any new work then??? |

The upload/download values in the client state are continuously updated based on actual measurement, so manipulating wont get you far and looses you progress and time while doing this.

The upload/download values in the client state are continuously updated based on actual measurement, so manipulating wont get you far and looses you progress and time while doing this. Hmmm, so what is a solution here. I mean, I'm running a 6MBit line with a rate of nearly 700kB/s... And boinc or linux wants to tell me, that I don't even habe 128kB/s... ![]() Is there anything I can do to solve this issue? ![]() |

There's no solution. I've got 20M+ and the effective path speed between WCG and my outback measures 1M.
----------------------------------------Have you got a link to the CEP2 page where it says 128k? Yesterday found a line where it gave a different UL/DL value. edit: Ah yes, here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewNewsArticle.do?articleId=134
