Hi, I just started using WCG recently. I only got it because it was automatically installed on my work machine by software that downloads fixes and other recommended software packages.
This automatic download program is maintained by the company I work for (IBM) and I guess it was recently modified to include WCG as one of the recommended software packages. This would seem to me to be a pretty effective way to increase use of WCG. If Microsoft were to include WCG as part of the optional software offered under it's "Windows Update" process I would think it could result in a substantial increase in WCG users. Is there any partnership between Microsoft and WCG, similar to the one betwen IBM and WCG? |

Perhaps I do Bill a dis-service, but I don't think we will see anything coming out of MS that won't (ultimately) make them more money. WCG is strictly not-for-profit . . . .

Hello beavin,
The buzzword phrase is 'organization approval'. This is really what the Parnership Program at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/our_partners.html is all about. We hope that our members will look at Become A Partner at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewBecomePartner.do and talk their companies into becoming partners. mycrofth |

Yeah, that would be nice! I am also eager to see the jump of subscribers when the linux client is released.

You'll get twice the folding out of me when that Linux client is released :) I split my time 50/50 between Windows and Linux. I also plan on organizing a team for the Linux distro I'm involved in. I'm sure the various larger Linux distros will create quite the teams in WCG... maybe give the current large teams a run for their money... err donation... err volunteer number crunching ;)

ship the client and i will run it! i have 2 machines now on wcg on win xp, have dvdrom and hardisk waiting for a box to live in and a linux wcg client to run... keep us informed cheers |

Yeah, that would be nice! I am also eager to see the jump of subscribers when the linux client is released. It is notable, and ironic, that the Slashdot group is one of the major contributors/crunchers for WCG. Slashdotters are nerds that often have 'Nix (Unix, Linux, BSD, etc.) systems, sometimes multiple 'Nix systems, sitting around at home. That they also have lots of Windoz systems shows the potential of a 'Nix agent. And the nerds are probably more likely to hang in for the entire grind (I did). If there had been a Linux/BSD Grid agent, this project would have completed months ago. |

The current plan is to have a Linux client available in the first half of November. We hope that this will bring a lot of extra crunching capability to WCG.
