Re: Computers tips

Did you know that you can browse the seemingly endless music of Spotify by genre, year or title? It’s as easy as typing in a command and a tag!

For example, typing year:1990 would bring up music released in 1990. Typing in title:White Christmas would bring up all the versions of White Christmas out there. You get the idea

You can also search by genre, of which over 900 to choose from. Simply typing genre:americana brings up all the americana selections Spotify offers, and so on.You can click here for a full list of genres to poke through.

Re: Computers tips

helpful aside to Friday's tip about deciphering error messages: many error messages allow you to paint their text with your mouse. If you can, press Ctrl-C to copy it, switch to your browser, and press Ctrl-V to paste the entire error message into Google. Instant answers. Hopefully

Write down your passwords on a post-it. Seriously!

Re: Computers tips

I already use similar ideas to mix high and low case letters and numbers for important passwords. Some of my passwords are over 15 characters. Sometimes I do mess up if I do not use them regularly but I manage to recover them by rebuilding them through a logical process. I also change them from time to time. biggrin

I love this question from the article.
Does exascale computing lead to Skynet?
Is termination in our future? biggrin thinking

Re: Computers tips

When you can't "paint" the text, you can often copy the error message just by clicking anywhere on it and pressing Ctrl-C. You'll get all the text, but then you can paste that mess into Notepad, clean it up, and then Google it.

Re: Computers tips

Windows 7 has quite a few neat tricks up its sleeve!
So, open up a program (just about any one will do), and hold your Windows key ( the Windows key is the one located between your Ctrl and Alt keys on your keyboard and has the Windows logo emblazoned on it).

As I said, hold your Windows key and press one of the direction arrows on your keyboard

Windows Key + Left Arrow – Snaps the current window towards the left side of the screen.

Windows Key + Right Arrow –
Snaps the current window towards the right side of the screen.

Windows Key + Up –
Maximizes the current Window.

Windows Key + Down – Send the current Window to a compact state. Press again to minimize. Note: Once the window is minimized, you need to click on it again if you want to access it.

Remember: This trick is only for Windows 7 users. Everyone else is just going to have to use their mouse, I guess!
