Re: Unable to upload work unit

I should add this is on BOINC 5.4.11.

There is a proxy, but only this one machine is affected.

Re: Unable to upload work unit

I did a network trace while the transfer was happening. I see
POST /boing/wcg_cgi/......
ACK
HTTP/1.1 200 OK

data sent
ack received

I receive a TCP Dup ACK 66#1, followed by TCP Dup ACK 66#2
I send a TCP Fast Retransmission
I receive a TCP Dup ACK 66#3 followed by a FIN,ACK packet
a few more packets exchanged
Final connection reset packet received.

Re: Unable to upload work unit

Hi. Are the techs looking into this problem? Do they need any additional information?

Although the problem is related in some way to my location as both laptops upload successfully from work but not from home I cannot believe that all 3 people who have reported this are with the same ISP. I am with PlusNet in the UK. One of my faster systems is sitting idle at the moment because it will not download new work units while there are 24 failing to upload.

Re: Unable to upload work unit

Yes the techs have been prodded once more and are looking into this and the proxy issue.... not limited to WCG. Cant fix one and breaking the other as code fixed here in BOINC needs to work at all other projects as well (there are many).

Re: Unable to upload work unit

Weird, my problem machine is still downloading work, just not uploading.

Re: Unable to upload work unit

5.8.16 seems to have been the version with least issues v.v. proxy and also facilitating upload compression (no promises). Get it here: http://boincdl.ssl.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_5.8.16_windows_intelx86.exe

(The last supported version for W95 and WNT as well)

Re: Unable to upload work unit

Removed BOINC and installed the 5.8.16 version ... work units that were erroring on upload have not changed status to "ready to report" and no longer show up on the transfer tab.

Re: Unable to upload work unit

The "Removing" word gives me the chills. How did you do that and did you keep a backup before the downgrade?

Did you intend to type "have now changed status..." hopefully?

Re: Unable to upload work unit

robert1p

Can you go back to the 5.10.X version that you prefer and then do the following:

Download either:
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/libcurlx86.zip
or
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/libcurlx64.zip

depending on whether you are using the 32 or 64 bit client.

Unzip those and drop the contained files into your BOINC installation directory (normally C:\Program Files\BOINC).

Restart BOINC and then have the upload retry.

Those zip files contain the libCurl 7.17.1 build that will be used in a new test version of the BOINC client. In particular there is a a fix that says "CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS could fail to send binary data". That is the mechanism used to upload result files.

Let us know what happens.

thanks,
Kevin
