Fossaw, I updated the explanation about which animal Base Camp is.
You will find the link in my signature. BTW, I wrote management - the keeper of this website - and wailed about the maximum number of characters (250) which seems not to be possible to utilize at its fullest. ***** Hi Webmaster! Several times I have bumped into crossing the maximum of 250 characters in my signature. This time I have chosen to report it, because the number of characters is 248 according to the counter: ![]() ♥ biaxaake-taatawe ♥ Crux of Base Camp ♥ with Bearcat ![]() The preview is fine and intact. However, when I try the final 'Change Signature' I get this: Error executing SQL in MemberDAOImplJDBC.updateSignature. and I can go back and try again or report this error to Website administrator which I have chosen to do. Is there anything wrong with my signature or the counter? I can change 'Crux of Base Camp' into 'Base Camp crux' and bring the counter to 245 characters, and I found a space that could be deleted. Now I have 244 characters: ![]() ♥ biaxaake-taatawe ♥ Base Camp crux ♥ with Bearcat ![]() Still I get: World Community Grid Forums » Error !!! plus the above red messages. When I remove 'crux' + a space = now 240 characters, the signature is accepted. I look forward to hearing your view on this. |

Good Morning Base Campers!
Minnesota trek Still running with BladeD Fossaw little mermaid Yodap@BC Info I e-mailed Bearcat this morning. Hopefully he's well enough to reply. I e-maied ultimaThule - former Minnesota Crunchers cruncher - who has crunched with top40.nl since our trek there. If he would join I could obtain that bargain on our badges. @adriverhoef: I shall do my best to nudge ultimaThule back to you, should he answer my wishes .... Suggestion Yesterday tanner2 replied to a recruitment proposal from stefada, Team Kraland, by suggesting he joined for a bit when Kraland was in a challenge. I found that a neat idea. What do you think? We did Kraland once, and in my opinion it was enjoyable. We could plan it for around June 1 if Saphir12 has planned any challenges there. Selfcentered chit-chat Our weather is at its prettiest, so I need to go out to some of my places to be visited in the spring .... Takaki's Japanese cherry trees, the rhodendendrons and narcissi lawn with a fragrance so thick that it makes you dizzy ![]() Besides, Upstairs Yvonne's workman doing her bathroom wrecks my nerves with his startling noises ![]() See you later ![]() |

Gosh girl! Please read you Inbox....
----------------------------------------Well, all another ones. I'm switching my work role, so did need to return my four laptops to my employer, which I did use to crunch some... If I get any loose backup HW on my future work-role, I sure will share them with all of you. Liittle Memaid: https://youtu.be/xVKGXgHDMvQ ![]() |

I would be a little worried about running BOINC on a laptop. The design is such that an adequate heatsink for the processor is out of the question, they tend to rely on one that is just about up to the job for normal desktop applications, a heavy number cruncher pushes it. The added heat stresses the processor and can cause failure.
----------------------------------------The processors in them are not terribly fast or powerful generally, but it would still worry me. The heatsinks on my i7's are about 20cm cubes, difficult to fit in a laptop. [Edit 3 times, last edit by Former Member at May 6, 2018 4:32:54 PM] |

Tanner2
---------- I have noted everything, and I already annoy our captain, Saphir12. She has to organize a 10-year trek, so that we recruit you and Sujo1 seem of nothing. And by the way, we 'girlnap' Lillte Mermaid! There are only 7 billion -3 to recruit, simple. ![]() |

@ultimaThule: No problem. I just thought this could be your big chance to
----------------------------------------1. Say hello to your old team 2. Help Base Camp get our badges at a discount when we ordered 10 3. Possibly say hello to your new team again I read from your e-mail that you are happy with your present work-role, and that's what counts ![]() @Fossaw: I crunch on a 10-year old but 7-9-13 robust Lenovo laptop, and it does get warm. I rest my hand there if I'm cold, but it's warmer on the underside. Some 34C/93F - the same as my phone running on eight cores. Seriously, it must be hard for the poor thing. acpartsman recommended some cooling pad, to which I was somewhat rejecting. Now you are two - both more knowledgeable than me - who tell me to be cautious. Which cooling pad could be useful? @stefada: 10 year challenge! Splendid idea ![]() @stefada: Défi de 10 ans! Splendide idée EDIT: 'trek' replaced by 'challenge' [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 6, 2018 11:54:47 PM] |

Unfortunately, I am "retired", forced. A cardiac arrest sitting at my desk in a software development lab meant I was dead. Some medics got my heart beating again, but 46 minutes of death destroyed parts of my brain. I have tried several times to retrain myself, in fact I was trying again at the moment, my C++ books are on my desk, but frankly, I know where it is going. I don't remember trying to recruit, I had BOINC running on my computers at the office, other people might have seen that and started running it. I don't know why it hadn't occurred to me to recruit.

I'm so sorry to hear you have had such a serious heart attack, Fossaw.
It is not something you get over in a hurry when your brain must make new inroads to compensate for what was destroyed. Do you have good support from your doctors? I assume you know 'Hjerteforeningen' - the Heart Association in Denmark? I also assume you have been through a rehab program. Is that finished? Can you get further assistance? my C++ books Which books are these? As for recruiting: Perhaps you have friends who along the way could be persuaded to install BOINC on their computers. |

I have a doctor here, I perhaps see her once every couple of years, normally to see if there is anything new for hay fever. I know the name of the heart association, but have never had any contact with them. I went to a different hospital for a period, I don't know if that constitutes a rehab program, it did not seem to acheive anything. I don't know that anything can be done. If the brain cells are gone, they are, well, gone. I have a miserable semi existance and have to live with it.
The two books on my desk at the moment are Herbert Schildts C++ from the ground up, an easy to follow book, but he introduces some bad habits, I would hesitate to recommend it. The other is Karlssons Beyond the C++ standard library, a good, but more advanced read, not for beginners. I have other C++ books and a load of Delphi / object Pascal books as well. I would regard myself as a Fortran 77 expert, but do not have a compiler for the language on here. |

How long ago did your heart arrest occur, Fossaw?
You're right, dead brain cells are gone, but that means the living ones have to work harder. Sometimes it is not possible to achieve a lot, in other instances the improvement can be surprising. At a glance, it doesn't look as if you have been taken care of as much as you need. As irritating as hay fever is, you seem to have a bigger problem. But perhaps the health system has done what they could? I assume that your general practitioner is aware of your condition and that she keeps an eye on new developments that could help you. I also assume you put a mild pressure on her letting her know that you want as good a life as possible, and that you expect her as your counselor to help you obtain this by directing you to the specialists who may be able to improve your condition a bit here and a bit there. Above all you would do yourself and the health people you meet a favor by being your own health specialist, because you are the one who knows your entire medical history the best. These days everybody is so specialized that they focus on that one detail and don't address the rest. That's where they need you to inform them, and contrary to what I have experienced years back, I now find health workers to be very receptive of what you have to contribute for a far better cooperation and better results for everyone. Has the heart arrest caused mobility problems for you? So C++ is a programming language. I would say, that since you know these things there must be a large number of your brain cells that work impeccably ![]() |
