November 27th 2008, the actual arrest might have been after midnight, so 28th. I have sent a mail to the Hjerteforeningen, but really, my heart is not the issue anymore, it is the brain damage that arose from the heart issue. The heart arrest has not caused any mobility problems, the pain and difficulties I have were there before the event, they just get worse with age. I was born with very loose joints, my shoulders for example, dislocate quite easily, there is family history of arthritis etc.
C++ is one of the most popular programming languages, it is the object oriented upgrade to the older C language. Microsoft have tried to implement an updated version called C#, ( C++ ++ if you like), I don't know how that is going, I do not have a compiler for it here. A value name with ++ after it means increment the value, ie. add one to it, if x = 5, then x++ would make it equal 6. It is a very common operation in programming. |

Long time has gone since that heart arrest, Fossaw.
Hjerteforeningen also deals in 'collateral damage' coming from say a heart arrest, educates, informs, and counsels. Just to have a telephone conversation with someone who can empathize with what you have been through can be a comfort. They will probably also be able to advise you about what might be possible to do after all this time. I found this link but it is mainly about research in the measures taken immediately after a heart arrest. In your case it would be for the long haul you need now. Do you take medication to prevent another heart arrest? Do you study programming languages in order to be able to secure for instance part time employment or consulting? Or is this field that has occupied you during your work life your hobby/interest as well? I must admit that this is double Dutch for me - even as I know some rudimentary single Dutch taught to me by cruncher and team top40.nl captain adriverhoef. |

C++ is one of the most popular programming languages, [..] I do not have a compiler for it here. There is a compiler in every Linux distribution: gcc. From the manual page, line 1: gcc - GNU project C and C++ compiler. |

Good Morning Base Campers!
I am happy to report that an e-mail just rolled in from Bearcat telling he's home again now ![]() dealing with his pain and all the pills he has to take. I suppose it is hard to say what the result will be, as a surgery like this must be quite upsetting for Bearcat's body. Hopefully the pain will diminish as the wounds heal and his muscles get used to the new structure of his spine. Welcome home, Bearcat - you just let me know when you're ready for the bearhug you promised me ![]() ![]() Minnesota trek Well, it's over ![]() ![]() acpartsman BladeD davwhite5xq7 Fossaw little mermaid tanner2 TLD yodap@BC I'll deal your badges - and the honorary one for Bearcat and you may leave for your home teams or stay around with the black flies in Minnesota, if you prefer ![]() Future Base Camp treks We are looking for a host team that we could interact with and which wants the boost we are able to give. All your ideas and inspiration is welcome. Hopefully we can have something lined up beginning about June 1. In the meantime sujo1 has signed SeriousCrunchers up for a lot of challenges running for the remainder of this month. Saphir12 has announced Kraland Challenge IX and I'm sure stefada expects a visit from tanner2 at some point during the duration of that one starting May 12 end ending May 20. As for me, I'll move my door sign to SeriousCrunchers until Kraland Challenge IX takes off. If all is calm on the East Front, I intend to stay for the duration. ![]() |

... what I need is the missing parts of my brain rebuilt to at leasst try to do something. Losing something you have had is worser than never having had it, I think, Fossaw. You haven't lost your English ![]() Did they (the social services/job center/trade organisation) ever try to find something for you to do in an extent you could/can manage? Have you crossed the pension age limit? Now you're doing this - that is a volunteering. I hope it gives you a bit of satisfaction, and I hope you'll find something where you can utilize what you are still able to do. ![]() |

Certainly, I have never been able to play the harp, so if I lost the ability, I would not notice. I am English, so grew up with the language. The kommune or social, I don't remember who it was that organised it, placed me at Foss for three months. It was difficult for me, they had a small group of software types, but they were desktop type applications whereas I had been into deeply embedded systems, most recently for safety equipment onboard large ocean vessels, stuff needs to work, reliably 24/7/365 sometimes for years, the skills are similar to a certain extent, but differ in many ways, some of the gear is on specialised processors and microcontrollers with quirky tools. It takes a while to get into the area, I'd been in that area for 30 years. I will be 61 Wednesday. I've been BOINCing since BOINC started, and the older SAH system before that.

Wow! You're English! That would explain your name should it be your own name.
It would be extremely rare for a Dane. And I thought I had bumped into a Dane. Finally ![]() This is a little funny: I had the thought that you might have had to do with Foss. But now I believe it is pure coincidence and that you would not have had nice enough memories from Foss to put that into your name. What you did with the safety equipment for ocean going vessels sounds so interesting, and I certainly understand that everything must be very accurate. Would that be with Maersk Line? Apart from a string of unlucky circumstances, how do you like living in Denmark? Do your have a circle of family and friends here? How are your ties to the UK? - England, GB - I seem always to say this in a way that is offending the way each Brit has chosen to identify himself ... ![]() - ![]() ![]() When did BOINC start? I never heard of the SAH system. I crunched at UD Grid from 2003, paused, and when I wanted to return, found UD Grid had disappeared, found WCG instead and discovered many old friends from UD were here, stayed for two years, went into hibernation, and now I'm at my third inning. |

This account I started whilst working at Foss. I was there for three months, I had no problems with the place, the small group I was assigned too were pleasant people, the building perfectly adequate, I have no negative feeling towards the place. The company I was working for when the attack started was called Danelec, we made VDR and ECDIS systems amongst other things. I know very few people here, I have worked for 3 companies were I knew people, other developers mostly, but they were work colleagues, not really friends. The only person I have here is Vibeke, my girl. We've been together since 1997, (I think), I sold my house and moved here to be with her around that time. I don't recall when BOINC started, I'll have a look around, it is bound to be documented somewhere. SAH was "Seti At Home", the original ideas are still running as a BOINC project now, although the applications have been developed hugely since then. I was never involved with the United Devices system, so no knowledge.
