Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Afternoon Base Campers!
We are still the same diligent crew
- and we still lead the Small Teams Race biggrin

It's been a while since I have been seriously off-topic.
So since this trek runs so smoothly, I'll run off-topic.

You have probably all heard about my buddhist friend whose model daughter said
'No, thank you'
when Mr Trumpf asked her for a date. This will probably not be the last time I tell it.

I have a new friend who worked as a French teacher and I spent the day with her.
She cannot drive.
Not that she hasn't tried.
Her teacher at her driving school said he had only had two students
who needed 103 driving lessons and flunked the test two times:
Karen herself and Niels Bohr - Nobel laureate in physics.
Niels Bohr was said to have crashed his car after which he gave up driving completely.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Come Fly With Me, eh? That's making me think of … yes,
Come Fly With Me! laughing (a mockumentary created by and starring Matt Lucas and David Walliams, and narrated by Lindsay Duncan)

However, there's no time for that now; on this flight to the moon we are waiting for re-establishing contact with captain stefada.
'allo, 'allo, are you there, stefada?

(apart from static, there is silence)

Still no signal from captain stefada, Little Mermaid, there seems to be a radio failure. How unfortunate.
According to our schedule, you should be landing on the moon tomorrow (20th), 'cause the day thereafter will be historical!

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Little Mermaid,

A 60Km/h, 360m, etc ...

It really takes very big problems of sight, not to be able to drive. To be one-eyed, for example, we have no longer any notion of distances.
Otherwise, it's just anything. Finally, lack of confidence, it can be understood, I do not want to judge. But it's learned, it's like everything.

When we drive / pilot, we do not make lots of calculations, we simplify. By car, the braking distance, is approximately equal to the speed squared.
If I drive at 50Km / h, it takes about 250m to stop. At 60Km / h, 360m, etc ... (Faster, you still have to take the slip factor into account)

The 'little baby' we see there, it goes to 200Km / H roughly, nothing for a plane. And the one I piloted, was from an earlier version. But, the kiff?

How about we take this plane. This flying veteran was called an HM-8 Avionnette, designed by the Frenchman Henri Mignet in 1928.

My grandfather built one similar to this in 1932 from Mignet's design. If only the plane was still around. I would love to see it in person.

Cheers coffee

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Are
we
going
to
the Moon
in that little blue and white thing, stefada?
confused
And back again
-i hope?
worried
Well, even if the age is right not talking I don't think I need to spend the extra money for a 'Speedy Body Pass' on this flight ...
Stampede?
To go to the Moon
- AND BACK
on a came-just-after-the-biplane blue and white one!
Hmmmpf!
Losing the fish bowl hats is an advantage, though biggrin

Yes, why not, NixChix biggrin Did your grandfather build that in the US from French blueprints?
The first flight in Denmark took place in 1906 in a plane built by inventor J. C. Ellehammer.
It was flown by himself, of course.

I'm sure Captain adriverhoef will set us right.
The Netherlands have proud airplane traditions ...
I hope ErikaT will let us mention the name wink
- Airline pilots like asking the control tower to ask the private plane pilot to get his little Fokker out of their way blushing

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

I love flying (non-commercial of course) but it hates the heck out of me sick . Dad had planes and I loved flying with him. He tried teaching me but I simply don't have the feel for it and can't stand not being able to see directly ahead. Not to mention I like "gravity" so I tend to keep it in a slight climb d oh .
As with cars, I like speed and maneuverability so I'd probably be better suited in a Tomcat or Blackbird. biggrin

1906? It is amazing what people were doing back then. My grandfather lived in Luxembourg. I've read some old material that says he bought a kit from Mignet. Since he needed somewhere to fly, he was involved in founding an aviation club and getting the first airfield established in Luxembourg. The plane has only one seat as-built, but we can always add another like this.

Since this is a virtual journey we can add as many as needed. Like the roof riders on Indian passenger trains.

Cheers coffee

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning Base Campers!
Our trek has turned into a aviation/space lab laughing
Beautiful picture!
You're right, NixChix, it's amazing!

So you are sort of a third generation Luxemburger? WoW!
It's remarkable how many of you guys are interested in aviation - some of you even experience.

It's not my peak competence as I have admitted to earlier.
However, I do admire those people - the early inventors and aviators of this means of transport.
I'm surprised that Denmark's Ellehammer had his plane
(motorized by an 18 HP motorcycle engine made by himself)
flying such a short time after the Wright Brothers.
We even have film from test runs on a frozen lake north of Copenhagen.
Look at those wings!
Aren't they beautiful?

And, yes, NixChix, this is the beauty of Base Camp
- all that limits us is our imagination
- and that is endless biggrin
Let's built seats for all of us and reach for the stars
biggrin - and get some more people joining this top40.nl 2.0 trek here: top40.nl
