Thank you, Wishbone, for loads of beautiful pictures.
Those rhodondendrons are English, right? The "Den Norske Turistforening" was just meant to confuse us, I'm sure. They don't grow rhodondendrons that big in Norway. So the starlings (I see the birds in your weatherwane as starlings) have invaded. Two babies? Great snaps! But what is it with you and Norway? Did you blow up the Rjukan heavy water plant? ![]() |

Given the amount of smoke in the air down here, it certainly appeared someone had blown up something this morning. But no, it was merely the drift from the fires down in the counties south of us. Thick enough to be fog and burning the eyes, nose, and throat when I went out to water my plants.

You must hunger for fresh air.
Not long ago it was burning in Georgia. Is that put out? Now you have domestic fires - and Texas is burning, too. Is that more wildfires in your region than normal? |

Base Camp's Trek #28 is no longer a secret.
----------------------------------------The code name is Texas ![]() Our newest member - Base Camp #100 deltavee - has his own team He alternates between that one and Austin Grid Team where he presently is. Our Trek #28 is with deltavee's own team Episcopalians - in the plural in spite of never having counted more than one member - are you from Texas or what? The only reason for not joining should be electricity bills, summer temps, and Trekking Fatigue - each and every legit reasons for staying put However if those issues don't concern you - all you anti-militarists should have no excuses for not joining - vegans and vegetarians may have trouble with the longhorns, but you are not obligated to eat them - Base Campers of other faiths may have reservations as well, although as I understand it Episcopalians are fairly laid-back and tolerant - so why shouldn't you be? Name: Texas Where: Episcopalians Why: To celebrate that the Texan share of Base Campers just tripled Goal: Add points since the team owner/captain no longer does Start: ASAP - aiming for today - today being when you read this Team points and rank at start: Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) (Rank) 5:183:13:34:45 (#4,048) Points Generated (Rank) 6,336,017 (#2,571) Results Returned (Rank) 18,123 (#2,071) End: Please stay at least long enough to return a few results - but a week would be fine Badge: Suggestions taken from Sunday June 5th (I'll make a thread in The Igloo) - the inspiration from yellow roses, lone stars, longhorns, gunracks, oil wells, boots, hats, branding irons, you name it, not to mention Ghost Monkeys, should be plenty ![]() - please join if your feel like it New Campers are Welcome [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 5, 2011 6:44:19 AM] |

Good Morning Base Campers
----------------------------------------tgwakko is the receiver of the Rosie #27. Congratulations, the great! Trek # 28 Texas is up and running. cswchan, T.G.Wakko, and little mermaid have been crunching for Episcopalians since June 3, and today we expect to be joined by TLD and Sport. The five of us will form a decent sized group. Still we have room for more. pwrguru and Ghost Plane lie in the shadow because of temp issues, BUT Olivia, you better rev up that little car of yours - I'm sure the Texans will serve up a Texas sized BBQ for us, and you don't want to miss that, do you? PecosRiverM, throw that saddle on that furious mustang of yours and ride over and pitch in flipping the steaks and corn cobs, please. USAFA 82, it won't take you but a few minutes to fly that B52 down to Texas, will it? I'm sure deltavee has some cool home brewed tasty beer for you when you land. sujo1 - my favorite fortune cookie always predicting good things -Ghost Monkey is whining. Let him ride along, please. After all he lives with a Texan. alephnull, this could be your debut, but you may be too busy. We'll see if you react to TLD's mass e-mail, provided you signed up before work swallowed you. Cruncher Pete - we never really met yet - but it's wintertime in Australia, and Denmark made Tasmanian Mary Donaldson our Crown Princess. Admitted, poorly shrouded blackmail. Will you tag along? Dan Holtz, if you are not too busy dealing with the Wallow fire, I hope you'll put in a few results. GTCola2010, I so wish you were around to do your first trek - and to help me with the next one as we agreed, if the proposed one will be chosen. Jeeezzz, is that one messed up or what ... jan649, do you crunch? Or do you just duck for Ghost Plane's fork and knife? pinky, could we talk you into making a couple of elegant cycles on one of your bicycles? RAMMIE, I assume you spend most of your time nursing that Rosie, but don't you want a Texas badge as well? Come on, young man! rwillis, it cann't be that hot in Indiana, yet, unless you are exercising the way you do. We hope you'll put in a day or two, Handsome. Troy, we don't see you nearly as often as we would like. Isn't this the time to move a little closer? Lighthouse, I have seen you around and tried to holler, but you didn't hear me. How are you? vaio, you unruly puppy, heaven would turn spotted with happiness if you showed up White Horse/Ancient Clouds, wish you were here, wishing it so much I could cry Gromit/Dick_Dastardly, remember the great fun we had with frisbees. Hey, you are a Texan, too, aren't you? Of course, we'll play the song, Wishbone gave us once more - could very well be better than his grub ... ![]() On the Road Again Let the Base Camp national anthem be our pep talk (inclusive of the fun parts which I couldn't make YouTube erase) Working for the Man In Hexagame one of the items of our new set is The Beatles. Here is one of their matchless songs accompanied by some of the greatest actresses of all times: And I Love Her Yesterday was another perfect summer day in Denmark. My friend and I stumbled upon rhodendendrons once more and enjoyed the intricate South Zealand coastline, while procuring fresh eels from a fisherman for a favorite Danish dish: Pan fried eels with new potatoes (nowhere better than in Denmark) and parsley gravy. ![]() ![]() Why not join us today? You could be the Newest Camper in Base Camp - and you could jump right into Trek #28 - Texas! What do you say? [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 6, 2011 7:39:21 AM] |

Humidity is at record lows due to the drought. Which is why the fires are so bad that I'm starting to smell smoke when the A/C cuts on.
Rain would be good. Rain would be wonderful. We need a new rain dance! |
