That's a lot of crunching power. Do they all run WCG exclusively or do you have them doing other things too?

They are all with WCG. No multiple projects ... no multiple personalities. laughing biggrin Going to crunch this weekend with the basecampers.

Do they actually use 100% CPU power? Even with all the settings cranked up on mine I can still run Unreal Tournament, use winamp, do word processing and other tasks while WCG is running. Is there some magical way for it to block out other tasks and really use all the CPU power?

Also, red or white wine? My roommate and I have developed a recent obsession with port.

Hey Jonathan!!!

When I get the new one installed, six of the 8 machines will have nothing on them but an OS, virus/firewall and BOINC so they are always at 100%. One P4 also runs my weather station (which uses a heck of a lot more resources than I would expect but it reports every five seconds) and it is set at 100% throttle. One P4 is the main machine I use and is set to 75% when active and 90% when inactive. The quads all run under 45C now but the P4’s are still from 61C to 66C. Heat has always been my major problem.

BOINC runs at the lowest priority and will step down when other programs are running.

It was a 1984 burgundy from Napa Valley ... was good!! wink Port is good after dinner with a good cigar!!! biggrin

Can I see your WCG settings? I have to turn off WCG in order to run Unreal Tournament 3 or it gets choppy. I want to know how you give other programs priority. Although there's really no point in running WCG with UT3 since UT3 takes like 85% on both cores. Of course, less demanding things are fine since I use this computer while WCG 24/7.

While there are myriad ways to set the priority of an application (including Windows itself), you may want to look at TUT (The Ultimate Troubleshooter):

http://www.answersthatwork.com/TUT_pages/TUT_information.htm

While not free (but has a trial version), it has served me well over the years to diagnose problems that sneak in from time-to-time despite the levels of security we have to have if running any Microsoft OS. You can also do many other things with it such as program priority.

But also be advised that you can also do a good deal of damage with it too if you are not sure of what you are doing. wink

Re: smile smile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 22 smile smile

A staggering 65% of problems which a PC encounters (lockups, crashes, blue screens of death, computer is running slow, sluggish PC), whether in business or at home, are not caused by hardware problems, they are not caused by viruses, they are not caused by spyware — they are caused by background tasks belonging largely to legitimate and well-known software you use every day !

I don't need this shareware. cool I can do those things by myself. Save myself some money. tongue

I don't get lockups, crashes, BSODs, slow running computer, or sluggishness.

Thanks though.
