I'm not rich like you. tongue

I'm not rich either ... just old, retired and "comfortable". Look on the bright side Blizzie ... you have a much better and longer life expectancy than I do. biggrin biggrin

I need to get myself at least a 1300 VA APC. tongue

Just eats up more power. wink

Be well ...

Well, overclocked Duo and Quad will be running off it. I'd rather be safe than see the after effects of a power surge.

A staggering 65% of problems which a PC encounters (lockups, crashes, blue screens of death, computer is running slow, sluggish PC), whether in business or at home, are not caused by hardware problems, they are not caused by viruses, they are not caused by spyware — they are caused by background tasks belonging largely to legitimate and well-known software you use every day !

I don't need this shareware. cool I can do those things by myself. Save myself some money. tongue

I don't get lockups, crashes, BSODs, slow running computer, or sluggishness.

Thanks though.

Blizzie, if UT3 is the only with an issue, would simply right-clicking on the BOINC icon in the system tray and clicking on Snooze be acceptable? That simply suspends computation in BOINC. When you're done with UT3, just uncheck Snooze. If remembering to un-snooze is a problem, you'll have no problem whipping up something that addresses that. biggrin

Of course, that's what I do. Or I just shut it down completely. I don't play for long anyways; less than an hour.

[cue Simpsons theme music] DOH! biggrin I would imagine most any high-end graphical program would be in the same boat along with computational intensive simulation style games. So, do that mean WCG is your "antidote" that keeps you from getting "addicted" to UT3? wink But hey, even ancient no-graphical games like Hammurabi could be fun when the university computer system suddenly gave the world write access to the program. devilish It suddenly developed a knack for becoming increasingly snide and sarcastic as your stupidity increased. Ah, those were three fun filled days! laughing

I'm not really into shooting games. I'd play other games but then I'd have no life at all. laughing Yup. Only real game I loved was Kingdom Hearts I & II, but that's for PS2. wink

People always ask me why I made this computer if I don't play games. Simply put, I felt like it. It's been a huge learning experience putting it together, tweaking it, and overclocking it to squeeze out every last performance. But hey.. I give friends free tech support and do support at my high school for computers.. Jeez leave me alone already. not talking

Anyways, bed time. sleep

CompuDude and some of the others must be running UD they dont show up on the Boinc site. Is there some way we can inform them about the changes? I dont think they know or they would have switched

Just kidding of course ... but I always did like a good horse race wink

The points are all over the place. You only have to look to the forums and see the constant complaints about them. Each project seems to be slightly different. They also do not seem to compare favorably to projects outside WCG as has been frequently reported. The HPF and FAH project WU's have been getting sporadically larger. I have received some at from 26-32 hours on P4 3.00 GHz machines. I really don't care about runtime as long as the points are comparable ... but it appears to me they are not. Some DDDT's are done in as few as 25 minutes and the point ratio to run time is higher. I may only get 10 points on 30 min dddt but then get only 100 points for a 25 hour HPF. I don't run Cancer or Climate so don't see what they are doing.

It is unfornuate as it drives more people to dddt and out of other projects. The "results" challenges don't help either as, on a fast machine, you can go through dddt WU's like a bowl of popcorn. wink

Oh well ... it is what it is.

crying Checking UPS, the new machine was still in SC this morning. Looks like I will not get it until tomorrow. crying

Don't shoot the fridge, Gerald ... you will need it in the spring. laughing biggrin laughing biggrin

Happy New Year!

Yes, I have noticed the same thing. I have seen CompuDude online occasionally. I don't know of any way of notification other than to keep posting it in the team thread. If you've changed your email address, I guess you would not get the very infrequent WCG emails. I guess some UD users will only know when UD stops getting WU's. Some will not even notice that. We are going to lose some percentage of users it seems. crying

Well, CompuDude has been returning results the last few days. True, he doesn't show up over at BOINCstats.com. There is a compudude in the U.S. that crunches for SETI but I don't think usernames have to be unique there. If our CompuDude is putting up 5-10K points a day using UD, they'd really do well with BOINC. There's little I can do as WCG doesn't give out member e-mail addresses. I have some I've picked up here and there. The team e-mail option would send something to everyone that has signed up for that but that was just a handful of folks last I looked. I have seen CompuDude checking in here so that's our best hope. I'm expecting to see our number of members returning results each day drop by a third to half when UD dies. We're just going to have to rebuild back up from that.

Re: smile smile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 22 smile smile

Kinda makes me wonder if some small teams might cease to exist with 0 active members. This UD fallout is going to be rough.

Also, my points are awful today since I just uploaded my results from my laptop about 3 minutes ago. They're probably not going to be figured into the stats update. But tomorrow might be rockstar performance for me. Also, I won't be returning results until Sunday afternoon since I'll be at my summer home with no internet access.

Hope y'all had a merry xmas and will have a happy new year.
