![]() Thanks for adding the waving US Flag image to the USMC Logo. I think these images would make a great banner for our team USMC statistics page if WCG ever allows them again. I'll look for a waving USMC flag to add to the other side of the logo. Again, thank you for your help and support. Let's keep folding those proteins... ![]() ![]() |

![]() Thanks for adding the link to our team USMC statistics page in your WCG Forum Posts automatic signature. Again, I want to give credit to Graham of My Online Team for showing us how to do it. He also provided us with the 2 images he posted as a banner in http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...thread=1803&offset=19 We also need to express our appreciation to Billy Bob of My Online Team who has provided at his own expense the domains and web sites in support of the WCG where these images are stored. For more information about this{ to [ for the USMC Logo the code is {img]http://wcg.cc/ski1939.gif {/img] ![]() for the waving US Flag the code is {img]http://wcg.cc/s/usaflag.gif {/img] ![]() I think these images would make a great banner for our team USMC statistics page if WCG ever allows them again. I was just about to post this when I noticed that Dave Bell had already replied to your post while I was composing this. So I'll send it along with my added thanks to Dave Bell of My Online Team for his quick support of our team. I want to express my thanks to all USMC team members for joining the WCG and for allowing some of their contribution to this project to be associated with this team. Pass the word that everyone is invited and welcome to join team USMC. Let's keep folding those proteins... ![]() |

![]() Thanks for letting me join the Team. I've been crunching work units day and night... hope it makes a difference... I should be the one to thank you for joining team USMC and I want to express my appreciation for the significant contribution you are making to the WCG. No question about it, you certainly make a difference. Semper Fi ... are there many members with more than one computer on this team ? This is a difficult question to answer and there are many posts in the forum threads discussing ancillary topics involving the number of installed devices. I think the only number that can safely be assumed accurate is if the member statistics say 1 device. To find our team members statistics, go to our team USMC statistics page and scroll down to the "Team Member Details and Statistics" area and click on any of the of the "Sorted By" options "Total Run Time | Points Generated | Results Returned | Member Name | Status (Current/Retired)". This will display "Team Member Details and Statistics: <USMC>" which has a list of our team members. Click on any member name and it will display detailed "Member Statistics". One of the "Member Statistics" is "Device Installations", which I think is currently an unreliable number of devices that the member has installed (the number may or may not be correct, unless it is 1 device). For example, it shows 2 installed devices for me, but I have only 1 device a Sony Vaio FXA49 laptop. I wanted to use the UD monitor to be able to continue running work units even when I was not able to connect to the internet to upload results and down load new WUs. However, I ran into some problems trying to get it to work (but that is another story - click here) and now my number of installed devices is incorrect. So bottom line, I don't think there is a definitive way to determine the actual number of devices a member has running. If he/she is active (look at "Last Result Returned") then the "Avg. Run Time Per Calendar Day" could suggest multiple devices if it is greater then 24 hours, but again - not definitive to determine the actual number of devices. Currently team statistics are updates once a day at midnight UTC, and individual team members statistics are update 4 times each day at midnight, 0600, 1200 and 1800 UTC. By the way, you can use a redirect URL in your signature block instead of the actual URL to save 55 characters for other use. Here is team USMC statistics page short/redirect URL 18 characters http://usmc.wcg.cc which can replace team USMC statistics page actual URL 73 characters http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamInfo.do?teamId=VD5RSMBR9N1 We need to express our appreciation to Billy Bob of My Online Team who has provided at his own expense the domains and web sites to "do redirects on URLs to shorten them for use in Signature files" and for hosting graphics files in support of the WCG. ![]() In the US Marine Corps we also have what in civilian life are the rumors told around the water cooler. However in true naval tradition, Marines refer to those rumors as "Scuttle Butt". Many years ago, before the internet and google, I was told, by a Staff Sergeant of Marines, about a passage in Herman Melville's classic saga ''Moby Dick'', that could possibly explain one source of the term scuttle butt. "We have all heard the expression "scuttle-butt". Now we know where it comes from. A butt is a large container for liquid, usually over one hundred gallons -- of fresh drinking water in this case. The so-called scuttle-butt was the one located near the scuttle, the narrow staircase leading from the quarter-deck down to the captain's cabin. The crew of the middle night watch were busying themselves with a bucket-brigade to fill that container where the mates would socialize and swap rumor and gossip." I can't tell you how hard I laughed ![]() http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...thread=1512&offset=52 ![]() I wish I lived closer to Everett, Wa. USA, so I could try some of that ![]() *note - I use the term old squid here in a very complementary fashion from an old jarhead to my friend Billy Bob who is a former US Navy Sailor. Scuttlebutt comes from scuttle, "a small opening" + butt, "a large cask" -- that is, a small hole cut into a cask or barrel to allow individual cups of water to be drawn out. The modern equivalent is the office water cooler, also a source of refreshment and gossip.
----------------------------------------http://dictionary.reference.com/wordoftheday/archive/2003/01/24.html Stevie Ray Vaughan played an instrumental called "Scuttle Buttin". Wish it had lyrics so we could know what he was thinking. We'll have to settle for his excellent guitar play. I checked the team stats and, true to form, the Marines and their associates strive to be #1. The stats for only 13 members is impressive. It appears that each member is crunching non stop with at least 2 computers (or one member with a server farm). I have mooved up in the individual rankings from # 39000 to 21000... by the end of the week I hope I can reach the 15000 position. What are your individual ranks ? Keep on folding |
