Hi leatherneck74-84

All this folding is starting to feel like origami!

You got me rolling on the deck, at first you sound as if you went through DI school at PI, and then ended up with one or more tours on Okinawa.

I really like your transition from ignert to origami with bumping in the middle. LMAO!!

Now to answer your question, as I know it a "Bump" is used in a forum to simply move a thread to the top of the "Recent Threads" stack when someone has nothing else to say.

Any time someone posts to a thread it goes to the top of the RT stack and then moves down the stack as other more recent updated threads get moved to the top, so eventually that stack entry will move off the first RT page (which is where everyone would like their thread to be displayed so others can find it easily).

When the thread has move to perhaps the third or fourth page, someone with nothing better to say will "Bump" it to the top of the stack and start the process all over again.

That's my understanding, but perhaps someone with more experience can explain it better.

Thank you Ski,

Your team is awesome. I have huge respect for our military in whatever branch. I have a son in the army guard. I will continue to crunch away.
I have always enjoyed posting in forums, and have never run into this kind of rule. For general information it has taken some enjoyment out of posting here. You on the other hand have been great to validate my efforts, and have put some of the enjoyment back!!! Thanks again!

WTG Marines!!!

Hi PRNRN91 - Welcome and thank you for posting on the USMC team thread.

On behalf of my USMC team member, leatherneck74-84, may I thank you and your Cybernauts team for recognizing his milestone achievement of contributing over one year of total runtime to the WCG. He is our team's second yearling.

He doesn't get into the WCG Forum very often as he is a full time graduate student and he also has a full time job, working 40 hours a week.

Wow, I don't know how he can do that, it makes me exhausted just to write about it.

I'm glad you are still folding those proteins and as I think you have a great sense of humor, I hope to see you continue to post on your Cybernauts team thread.

Please remember that the WCG has people from all over the world and what is really funny in one country won't even crack a smile in another. You can't please everyone, no mater how careful you are or how hard you try.

Bye for now and ...

Hi Shirley
It saddens me to know that you are not enjoying the Forums so much now, because of my actions as a Community Admin
It can be a thankless job at times, as it is all too easy to end up on the wrong end of members criticism for, as you put it (This seems very picky to me)
It seems a "simple request" to run one thread in the Team Forum has garnered quite a storm in a teacup
This action was to ensure fair play amongst all the members and now I am under scrutiny for my actions and made to feel bad because of it
I am willing to step down as a Community Admin, if you will fill the vacant position, to allow you to test your skills at being a diplomat, in the hope that you can do a better job than I have

For general information
Acting as a Community Admin, "voluntarily" in an effort to try to help to improve the Forum experience for everyone just makes these eruptions from members, that much more unpalitable!
Especially when it is so easy for people to hide behind internet connections and voice their displeasure at our actions, when these aforementioned actions do not allow them to do just as they please, without any regard for other members here
Community Admins are not here to have the enjoyment taken out of posting messages in the Forums either, especially when 99% of the messages are posted to help, guide and encourage members to have a better understanding of what we are trying to acomplish here.
I am about ready to pass the baton for the last time to allow someone else to shoulder the burden, of what used to be a very enjoyable enormously satisfying job.
Here is my voluntary workload: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2187

Hi Shirley - on behalf of all members of the US Armed Forces, past and present, may I say Thank You.

Also, would you please pass onto your son, my appreciation of his service to his country.
Go Army!

Unlike you, I had never participated in any forum before creating this thread on Feb 7, 2005. so I was literally starting at ground zero. The first thing I did was a search for forum rules and saw that they were sensible, clear and more over concise.

You continue to have my support, if only in spirit. I am encouraged that you are starting to enjoy participating in the forums again and especially glad that you continue your support for the WCG, after all that is why we joined,

bye for now and ...

Graham, your extensive list of accomplishments
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2187
is truly impressive, certainly well documented and you have indeed made significant contributions in all areas of the WCG.

It is beyond my ability to even think of trying to estimate how many hours of time went into doing all those things. I certainly could not accomplish even a few of them with my available free time or my limited experience or negligible talent. Recently, I wrote in a previous post
First of all Graham, I want to say that you have given to me personally, to the USMC team, to countless other WCG contributors and to the WCG as a whole significant and continuing unselfish assistance, support and encouragement for which I and so many others are deeply grateful and appreciative. In addition, I want to recognize you here and now for your outstanding efforts to recruit contributors to participate in the WCG, your achievement for single handedly adding 3000+ new contributors by your BBC interviews is unique and truly awesome and deservers my highest complements.

However, I forgot to mention your skill for creating original graphics. Let me correct that oversight here and now as your graphics display how really talented you are. They are very enjoyable to look at, showing great attention to detail and precision. Thank you for sharing them with us.

I had never participated in any Forum before creating this thread on Feb 7, 2005 posting a general "welcome to join the team" message, followed a short time later by my second post containing
I want to say thanks to Graham (My Online Team) for posting instructions in Jersey Joe's (team New Jersey USA) thread "Important Message" on how to add a signature with a link to a teams page.

Yes, you were the first person I thanked and from the very beginning, I have tried to acknowledge, thank, and express my appreciation for anyone's assistance. I also tried to pass onto others some of what I had learned, usually giving credit to the person who told me.

I don't know how many other different ways to complement you Graham, but my wife is starting to wonder why I am spending so much time on the computer, and to be honest, I have not enjoyed participating in the forum lately.

I certainly will continue with my contribution to the WCG and encourage others to do so, but I'll let them make up their own minds about venturing into these forums.

Perhaps from time to time, I may even post again on this thread to recognize achievements of other USMC team members, or I may even simply Bump this thread or some other deserving thread to the top of the stack.

As for now, I leave the WCG Forum to those whose find it an enjoyable, rewarding experience and time well spend or simply feel the need to get in the last word.

So in closing, I will bid a fond adieu, with my best wishes to all, now ...

Thank you Ski, I will do so.

To Graham,

I do apologize. You do an excellent job here and much better than I could do. I don't know the history of this place. Perhaps the threads have run amock in the past, for such a tight leash to be held on the posters. I do wish you well.

Re: rose Let's keep folding those proteins rose

smile Hi Ski1939
First let me thank you for the compliments
I have to say that I would be very upset indeed not to see you continue to use your exhuberant enthusiasm here in the Forums
Your assistance with other Teams and other members has been just as invaluable as my efforts
Every single person here that is prepared to share their time unselfishly as you have is a very valuable asset to the WCG and believe me, it does not go unnoticed
One more snippet of good advice shared here is one less problem for the member receiving the advice
It is our hope that other members will take on board what you have done for them and return the compliment to another member requiring help
Take a look at the Member To Member support and see how many helpful members such as yourself there are
We have come to rely on members such as yourself and other members like you to be the mainstay of the Forums
Please remember your enthusiasm is contagious and helps to get other members as involved as you have become
I hope you can find some more of that great attitude to continue here and start enjoying the experience again
You will always have my full support in your endeavours here, as you have earned my respect many times over

Hi Shirley
It may be of interest to you to know that I was the one who wrote the Forum rules, and it was my desire that they should be as short and unrestrictive as possible,
The members here are surprisingly polite and helpful and we have never had a serious flame war in 5 months
I am sure that must enlighten you to the quality and patience of the members here
You do not need to apologise to me, as you have not offended me
We have never kept a tight reign over the Forums, quite the contrary
We have been most fortunate in the fact that we have probably got the most polite bunch of crunchers on the World Community Grid that any Forum could wish for
It is our hope that everyone continues to enjoy the WCG experience
