![]() In the U.S. Marine Corps the article of clothing known as the "Campaign Cover" is authorized to be worn by both male and female Drill instructors and certain range personnel (such as Primary Marksmanship Instructors) with their service and utility uniforms when they are in an instructing billet, such as recruit training. ![]() - Campaign Cover - I never thought so much went into a hat, but I should have known better as military matters always and in all countries I have visited are precisely explained and documented, and often at length. I typed "Campaign Cover" and up sprung Wikipedia's thorough description of the item. Another place is Doughboy Center - no excuse for remaining ignorant except for time. It is a handsome piece of clothing that does not look all that military. In my limited research I did not meet any explanation of "Campaign" - is that "Mission" or "Battle" or .... ? Would you know ski1939? Over There Well, we better give sunfolk some instruction duties so he can keep his uniform inclusive of the Campaign Hat - I would hope he wouldn't shout at me this way ... it makes me nervous |

For those unfamiliar with Marine Corps Jargon ... When Comrade Terry said thanks for the "huss" it means thanks for the "helping hand" or thanks for the "help".
----------------------------------------@ Little Mermaid - I'm not sure when the term came into use, but I think the "Campaign" of "Campaign Cover" refers to the various military expeditions the Marines have participated in from 1912 until Word War II. Also Marines wear covers, not hats for headgear ... when you hear a Marine say "hat" he's probably talking about a Drill Instructor, because they wear the "Campaign Cover". More jargon trivia ... Marines wear trousers, not pants... and on and on it goes. Semper Fi - ski1939 |

So lets see if I've got this right, for the duration of the trek I get to keep the 'Campaign cover'?

Hello ski1939 - there is some lingo to be learned.
They wear trousers, not pants, eh? Aren't the two words interchangeable? Is there a significance to one of them that distinguishes it from the other? ![]() You were up very early this morning, ski1939. I appreciate that. It made me feel more safe from the mermaid poachers.... And we still have a ways to go to beat the Air Force on that last number, I noticed. Funny thing: Only a few months ago we tried to assist the Air Force ![]() Jens Hansen har en bondegård ![]() so I can stomach a whole roasted long pig with the coat on - crackling: |

![]() - that's what you have to deal with now. I'm pretty sure cruncher woltergast is a rookie for you to keep as a permanent member - but whom we would, of course, welcome camping with us on future Treks ![]() I made reservations for all 73 of us to have a champagne brunch to celebrate the well oiled adventure of crunching with you, USMC.
