Re: flag . . . . . . . Merry Christmas Everyone . . . . . . . flag

Good Morning ski1939 and Team USMC!
Well, I slipped out of that damp, windowless place with no doorhandle inside ...
- someone hoisted himself down the chimney and carried me outta there tongue

Some leave, some arrive ...
If there is anything we cannot do in Base Camp, it's marching to the same drummer
- that way we would make some sorry regiment
- but we did take great pains in making our arrival here pretty much fixed and punctual
- and I think we did one perkele good job - perkele is Finnish - at it cool
- so if you take us as we are, we are quite loveable blushing
- as are our visiting Musketeers in their fancy headgear biggrin

I looked at your graph this morning
- nobody in Base Camp wanted to bet with me as to whether it would form a Musketeer Cover
- or a USMC Campain Cover
What do you think it looks like, ski1939?
- at Team My efforts against Childhood Cancer tanner2 put the tail on the humpback whale
- we like it to look good smile

Malagueña

Two people rejoined, four people joined and four people left the USMC Christmas Trek yesterday, so 25 people remain on Trek #32.

No, Little Mermaid, I'm not Canadian, but I was twelve miles from the border. Grandmother, however, was from Nova Scotia - a Bluenose.

The pictured cheese is a five year old Vermont Cheddar. Quite delicious.

When I drink Stout, I drink it by itself.

I don't see Lancaster Milk Stout at my favorite store, but I'm sure I can get it at World of Beer.

I don't see any Danish beers. What would be some good Danish beers to try?

Sapphire

I finally got my Sapphire Badge for HCC. biggrin

Not bad for a single, eight year old machine. It was a hot rod back then, but it's a relative antique nowadays.

I was concerned the HCC work units would run out before I got the Sapphire.

Re: flag Welcome Aboard flag

What is a Bluenose, Comrade Terry?
Carlsberg Elephant beer of elephant strength would be a good bet.
Also, I would think it would be available as Carlsberg is sold pretty much worldwide.
Rival Tuborg - now they are merged tongue but keep the old names
- has a brand that is equally good in my opinion: Tuborg Gold which may also be easily available.
As a peculiarity I can mention that Annette Strøyberg was the model in a long gold dress for this beer.

She was married to French film maker Roger Vadim
as a replacement for Brigitte Bardot, and Annette was replaced by Jane Fonda.
Annette died from cancer in 2005 rose
I watched her being rolled in to receive chemo in 2003 when I had radiation treatments.
It was so sad to see this beautiful woman walking that line.

Did you make the rice à l'amande?

Little Mermaid, a Bluenose is someone from the Canadian Maritime Provinces (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island), especially Nova Scotia. Grandmother was from the little town of River John, Nova Scotia.

Yes! the rice à l'amande was delicious! I made it with jasmine rice, which may not be the correct rice.

Re: Annette Strøyberg. It's sad to see anyone walking that line. Hence, my participation in HCC.
You're right, could cancer be eradicated all together it would be #1.
I mentioned Annette Strøyberg because she had an interesting past, and it shocked me
to see this lady whom I admired from the ads and who somehow in my mind was
forever young and healthy and held that tray with the poured beer and the bottle up high
in her long, tight, flowing-at-her-feet gold dress. It's a pity that picture is not to be found.
I met others: The young female veterinary student who was confident her brain cancer would go away
- and her parents from far away who were with her one day,
and whose eyes reflected everything but confidence.
And the little boy playing with his Gameboy, calm and quiet while he was rolled into the chemo room
... oh, they were many and I remember them as we met in what they had named "The Underbasement".
But seeing Annette Strøyberg there felt like a sudden stab in my heart. Maybe it's strange.
Yes! the rice à l'amande was delicious! I made it with jasmine rice, which may not be the correct rice.
The original recipe calls for some round grained rice. They were not available where I live in Rhode Island
so I used normal long grained ones. At that time I didn't know jasmine rice, but after I learned of those
I have used nothing but and would have had this Christmas also.
However, upstairs Yvonne who is a great cook made the porridge for me
while she was at it. I'm pretty spoiled here. biggrin
I'm glad you liked it. Sometimes I sneak in that dish when it's not Christmas tongue
