Project scientists are affiliated to their respective institutions - in this case, Fiocruz. They are doing an excellent job. While this is probably quite true it would be nice if they could give us an update from time to time. Rosetta, Folding, SETI, Galaxyzoo and many others all seem to be able to give good frequent updates. We're not demanding perfect results and the cure to all things evil just signs that there is some work going on, heck most updates tend to be about the problems they are having (dead raid cards, problematic code.) Plus it's not like it takes a long time to give us an update, a quick post to say they are looking at protien X or that they are trying a new set of queries on the data set. This does gain them access to a few hundred thousand active CPUs which seems a fair deal for a five min post once a week/month. On a slightly different note, getting people interested in the science and letting people gain some insight into what goes on behind closed doors is increasingly important as well, especially as it can be difficult to explain to the masses all the issue which cause projects like this to take a long time! edited for language...cih [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 29, 2008 1:34:50 PM] |

We had an update on the 22nd of December, but there was nothing of interest to pass on.
I expect them to go public within the next couple of months, now. Obviously, this may change. MONK_DUCK, you seem confused - Genome Comparison has completed work on the grid. They are finalising their results now. Research does take time. A lot of time. Ask any PhD candidate! |

Good to hear we should be getting updates soon!
MONK_DUCK, you seem confused - Genome Comparison has completed work on the grid. They are finalising their results now. Research does take time. A lot of time. Ask any PhD candidate! Just beginning a PHD (in distributed networks) I am funnily enough aware that these things do take time, however I never stated that I was looking for a updates only when we were carrying out crunching for them. We are in fact interested in updates in the post crunching phase as well, most people are more interested in the science/research behind the projects rather than the interesting way in which the distributed computing works! As I said we are not looking for huge updates every time just small updates. FightAIDS@Home, HCC and HPF2 all seem to be able to do it well enough :) |

Eventually information will be posted. Probably on the Fiocruz website, with a link from here. Right now all I hear is that Fiocruz is having problems setting up the online database. Science and Information Technology are different things. Also, Viktors has reviewed and commented on a proposed paper submitted for peer review.
