This is very much what it looks like when all the communication dries up. For the sake of giving up a very very small amount of time the wcg or the researchers themselves could have given regular updates on the project (say 2 hours worth over the whole year for 12 updates tops.....) Consider where the researchers are. If they gave frequent updates, wouldn't you expect them to insist on writing them in Portuguese? |

We gave minimal progress reports because we were not closely involved in the work. The situation was frustrating but we will have to settle for calling it a learning experience and try to use the lessons learned in briefing new projects. I can completely agree it would be frustrating and we don't really do it just to be annoying, to be honest the new projects have been very good at keeping us up to date. Which is testament to the maturing and continuing progress of the WCG, that is after all a development/research project in its own right. Although I don't think you would be critical in saying they were still working on the project. They don't really even need to say they are having problems just that they are still working on it :) Consider where the researchers are. If they gave frequent updates, wouldn't you expect them to insist on writing them in Portuguese? Never thought that should be a big problem, it's the internet someone will translate or we can use translation services if we're interested. Consider where the researchers are. If they gave frequent updates, wouldn't you expect them to insist on writing them in Portuguese? To be a scientist in Brazil is really a matter of loving science above all else. That said, 100% of researchers and scientists master at least one foreign language, being that spanish, english, german or french. This is a must have, specially if you are seeking for a masters or doctorate. There can be a variety of reasons for they not giving updates at all, not the language. I entered the web site mentioned by the original post, which hasn't been updated since 2007, and noticed an e-mail address from Fiocruz over there. I have just dropped them an email (In Portuguese) asking for a project update or any possible news on this project, and the email haven't bounced back. Let's see what will come. |

THe project is in a dead/finished forum, How ever, I would not mind so much but the first post in the thread contains a link that is so long it stretches my screen when view as part of Recent Post....if you could just ament the first post or start a new thread without the gigantic link it would be fine!
