Re: New Beta badges awarded

sad What I don't like about getting the Beta badge is "it is so hard" even when you have spent a lot of time time and variations for getting Beta WUs to process so you even have a chance. I finally picked up another day but that only puts me half way to a bronze. I have decided to concentrate on reaching over a year of compute time on as many of the other projects as possible. I am almost there on HCC.

Whoa Nelly, deeply envious of you, eso. 'Just' have 27 days on the MG page. 18 more to silver needed... looking at the program, I'd say 2011 frustrated sad smile laughing

Sek, I will trade you my gold beta badge for your Muscular Dystrophy badge! praying tongue

Yea I'd trade for the HPF1 badge. I was crunching that elsewhere before I joined here.

I kind of understand your feelings.... I would have gold and then some if it weren't for errors. However, you have to try to remember that it is Beta and expect errors. I truly hate to get errors once a project is release (CEP I'm thinking specifically of you! angry ) but I expect to get some errors from the Betas tests and I accept that.

Keep plugging along. You'll get your badge sooner or later.

Re: New Beta badges awarded

Old expression: Observing the cat to come out of the tree (lost in translation probably) The slightly elevated discussion on auto-opt-in comes to mind and the motivations why not to be included. MS style: Beta, Rel. 1.0, SP1, SP2 is when it's said to be good, near perfection.

56 real errors out of 54,000 errors on the very well running HFCC using the very mature AutoDock engine. I read around in places outside WCG, and sure enough, all and everyone jumped on same as what happened with CEP, with little reservation.

You choose to get onto a brand new science and engine, so you may expect some trouble. My devices' CEP error rate I can count on my 2 little fingers. 100 validated, out of 102. I know I was the cause in both fail cases, denial does not allow me to remember any more. Running all as stock and that is my personal choice too.

cheerio and once again, happy crunching.

Re: New Beta badges awarded

lol

really, I did

I think your old expression has a similar meaning to " a watched pot never boils", Sek.

I too accept there will be errors and possible manual intervention required when playing with beta software. It's all for the greater good. I would also be happy to fight through a few more beta units to reduce errors in production work.
I'm accustomed to an environment where once the project goes into the production phase, errors are unacceptable. That's not a criticism of anybody, just my own experience. The very concept of the "M$" way of doing things is foreign to me, and I find it unsettling.
Perhaps I should clarify: I'm used to working and system development in a heavy industrial situation where system bugs and malfunctions can cause millions in damage, lost production and even loss of life. Again, I'm, not criticising anyone, just trying to explain my own standpoint.

It's more along the lines of grabbing the cat when it comes down by itself, rather than clambering up and risk to break the neck doing so.
