I kind of understand your feelings.... I would have gold and then some if it weren't for errors. However, you have to try to remember that it is Beta and expect errors. I truly hate to get errors once a project is release (CEP I'm thinking specifically of you! angry ) but I expect to get some errors from the Betas tests and I accept that.

Keep plugging along. You'll get your badge sooner or later.

I joined WCG long before badges. I do it for the good of mankind. The Badges are just a perk that adds some fun. I also joined Beta to assist with enhancing WCG's ability to release projects that were fully tested. I do so knowing I will see errors. It did suck, however, to realize I missed my next badge because of the errors. crying

Re: New Beta badges awarded

Hi everyone!

After reading through this thread, I thought I might post some words of encouragement to all Beta hunters out there who think it's too hard to get Beta units.

It occurred to me to enable Beta testing only about a month ago and in that short time I already happened to get 2 Betas. Both of them were valid and so they added up to a nice 1 day and 9 hours of CPU time. I had no idea how lucky I was until I stumbled upon this discussion.

I have 2 notebooks running Linux, one of them is Asus Eee (that means it rarely finishes a unit in less than 18 hours, and 24h+ times are not at all uncommon). I am not a deliberate Beta hunter, I just thought I might be useful to WCG as there are probably not that many Linux crunchers (and even less of them crunching on Eee's! smile ). I guess that might confirm what Sekerob wrote.

Both these machines run 24-7 (well, almost smile ). They are also permanently connected to Internet. I use no buffering at all (e.g. work buffer set to zero days). I try to report finished units as soon as possible to minimize "Ready to report" times.

I hope I was able to bring some hope to you Beta hunters. Don't give up! Happy hunting! (And I promise that if you prove to me you are running WCG on at least one Eee with Linux, I'll gladly withdraw mine from Beta testing after I get my Gold Badge for Beta Testing! biggrin )

Re: New Beta badges awarded

Nobody here is doing it for Badges. They are doing it to help. In addition to that, they are also doing it also for Badges.

As you said. I am not crunching just for badges. I am crunching to help and I have to admit I am crunching HCC and HFCC maybe for selfish reasons - both of my grandmas and one of my granddads died because of cancer, my mom has cancer too and she currently is fighting that, so I want to help fight this f...ing disease. But I think the major thing is that I crunch and not WHY I crunch. But because the badges are here, I want to earn them too. And as I said in another thread, I do not think that removing the badge after the project ends is a good idea. I earned the badge, I want to show that I earned it. Removing the badge is like taking the medals from olympic winners after the next olympic games and telling them "there are new winners, so you do not deserve the medal anymore".
I do not crunch just for Badges. But I crunch for Badges too, that is.

14 days of runtime. Similar levels to most of the projects (ACH being the odd project).
