Looks that way. I hope there are more goals in the second half.

Re: 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa / Soccer Football Thread

Only two games left before the quarter finals;
Today Paraguay play Japan, and later Spain play Portugal.

So far, South American countries have scored a total of 34 goals! If Paraguay win today, there will be a South American country in each Quarter Final, if not then an Asian country (Japan) will be in the Quarter Finals. There will be 3 teams from Europe and one from Africa (Ghana).

The winners of todays games will play each other in the Quarter Finals on Sat 3rd July.

The other QF's are;
Holland - Brazil (Fri 2nd July - earlier Kick Off)
Uruguay - Ghana (Fri 2nd July)
Argentina - Germany (Sat 3rd July - earlier Kick Off)

The Seim-Finals are on the 6th and 7th of July. The 3rd place play off is on the 10th July and the Final is on the 11th July.

Re: 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa / Soccer Football Thread

Very attractive quarter finals so far. Especially
Netherlands - Brazil and
Argentina - Germany
would also be good enough as finals.
I cross my fingers, that the referees will do a better job this time. For the loosing teams it is very frustrating to think that they had won with a better referee - and for the winning team it constitutes a lack of satisfaction when the referee came up with undesired and propably unneeded help.

Re: 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa / Soccer Football Thread

Half time for the Paraguay v Japan game and it's very 0-0.

Paraguay are better at passing and keeping the ball, but Japan look more dangerous. A tight game, could go either way. I could see Japan scoring but also making a mistake.

Ended 0-0 after full and Extra Time. Went to penalties and Paraguay won 5-4. So South America have one team in each of the 4 Quarter Finals.

It is Spain v Portugal very soon
- Fortunately for the beautiful game Spain won, albeit 1-0 smile

Until Frinday,

Re: 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa / Soccer Football Thread

Half time and it is Holland 0 - 1 Brazil straight face

A bit of an average game considering the two teams involved. Poor goal to give away! Holland started well, but Brazil seem in control now. Holland need to try harder and get some shots in. Brazil can sit back and try to play counter attacking football.

Would like to see more from the Dutch in the second half.

- well, Holland turned up and won!
Finished Holland 2 - 1 Brazil - yes, that means Brazil are out.

- Uruguay v Ghana
Uruguay started very well, but as the game went on Ghana came more into it, then became dominant and just before half time scored a long range goal. This will be some test for Uruguay now; they must score and Ghana look like a team that can really play counter attacking football. Can't wait for the second half.

- Uruguay upped the pace, got an equalizer and took it to Extra Time.

- After the first half of ET Uruguay look the better team.
- During the second half of ET Ghana were by far the better team, and in the last seconds of the game a Ghana shot was saved off the line; but not by the keeper, by no. 9. Red Card, Sent off, Penalty - but the taker hit the crossbar! The ref blows and it went to penalties.

Uruguay went through thanks to the biggest cheating incident of all time, a hand ball on the line in the last seconds of Extra Time. What a disgrace. This World Cup has been a FIFA melt down. Apparently cheating is not only acceptable, it is the norm. Tonight football died.

RIP the beautiful game,

Mandela Feels for Ghana’s Gyan

Heartbroken Ghana star Asamoah Gyan received a message of condolence from Nelson Mandela after his devastating penalty miss led to his team’s dramatic World Cup exit against Uruguay.....

Congrats Uruguay smile
