Re: new badges

No, they're by status (active/completed), then by project launch date.

FWIW, if it were by points, I'd have 2 projects below beta.

Ahhh... I was just coming back to say 'hmmmm... nope - not by points, either.' Because I have a couple tasks in the middle with less points than FAAH.

So, the last 4 to launch have been CEP, HFCC, IADS and HCMD2 (in that order)?

Re: new badges

I wonder if someone could redesign how some of the backgrounds are done? (e.g. put some border in? or have the body of the badge change colour as HFCC's does?) The predominantly blue badges (NRW, CEP) and the HCMD/HCMD2 ones get totally drowned out by the blue ("sapphire") background and look awful.

Maybe a lighter blue?

A single core PC is not normal anymore.

Re: new badges

Dear Badgers
... My 2c worth ...
Very pretty, and now we can see who concentrates on which projects. For a while. BTW, not everybody wants to have the top badge for every project.
I think the spread of award levels should be very wide, and I would have made the new levels 1, 5 and the highest at 10, 20 or even 50 years. We have the easy lower levels to encourage the newcomers, but I think the top ones should be rare. The average number of CPU cores per device is increasing, so we'll be clocking up the CPU-years faster in the future, and many members will achieve high total run-times. BTW, the Stats pages currently show that member NightHawk59 holds the cut-off position for 50 CPU-years (all projects), at ranking no 244.
I had thought of a system of "sashes" for the badges, along the lines of the belts awarded to practitioners of some martial arts. They could go diagonally, from the top left and bottom right corners of the badges, but only come in as far as the circles that some of the project logos have as their backgrounds.
My sashes, in say red, green, blue & black, would have looked OK against the previous top of gold, but not so well against the blue. White & black would still work though.
Finally, please keep the badge game in perspective. It's just a bit of fun. I don't think there will be used ones coming up for sale on eBay laughing
Goin' for my Black Belt in Beta ...

New badges. Very nice biggrin
I honestly also expected the new badges to be more rare. Looking around in the forum I see loads of the highest Sapphire badge. It's not like 'wow he has one'. Like the post I quoted above I also thought it would be something in the order of 1/10/25 CPU years. And how about some black badge that is so rare you see it once a year or something for 100 or 250 CPU years? That would be a nice holy grail.

Re: new badges

I honestly also expected the new badges to be more rare.

For a full basket of Sapphire on the nine current projects you need at least 18 years of crunching, which means #1,124 as of today. This is already not so common. And if you consider that most members who could have that have already contributed much on completed projects, or much more than 2 years on many of the oldest current projects that puts the cut-off even higher.

If you are already close to that level, first complete it, next prepare for further badge announcements. That will be exponentially more difficult, like 4, 8 16, 32 years probably...

Please don't forget that the badges you see for members in these badge discussions are often for rather exceptional contributors.

Happy badge hunting. Jean. smile

I agree, some badges with new backrounds are terrible :(

Re: new badges

sooooo many colors :O
i'm so jealous of you guys with the capability for these colors. Also proud so, pat yourselves on the back :D
meanwhile i'll keep aiming for bronze in all current projects and then decide which one to dedicate entirely to for a while to get a new color ^.^

I decided to go for Gold in all available projects, one at a time. Once I have this I will also decide which ones to take to the next level now. With only 3 cores available to me at present, it will take a while, so will accept whatever badge, if any, I can get in a project before it's finished.
