Re: new badges

TimAndHedy,
From what I know of the way the WCG staff operates I think you are wrong, and by much.
In case you don't know already they are not sitting all in the same corner of an office building, but in different locations of the US. That tends to avoid a number of superfluous meetings and to make the necessary ones shorter and more efficient (teleconferences are less comfortable and usually better prepared).

Cheers. Jean.

Re: new badges

That sounds good.
I tend to think of meetings in the broadest sense, including emails, etc.

It usually takes awhile to come to a consensus unless you have a dictator.

I really just meant there is more to consider than the techs time to do the actual work.

I probably could look this up somewhere but, does WCG have full time management staff or is all part time with other duties within IBM.

I do like the new badges. Whatever it takes to get people motivated.

Adding a hundred year or thousand year badge would be fine with me.

Have team badges ever been considered?

Re: new badges

The badges have created more mixed feelings than any other WCG feature.

With my 2 computers, I consider myself a small contributor - returning about 10 WU's a day. And I think the new badges are great!

I had been trying to get gold for all of the current projects but figured the thrill of the hunt would be gone after that. Now I have some new colors to shoot for. I'm not here for the badges but they do make the crunching more interesting. biggrin

Re: new badges

TimAndHedy, World Community Grid have a small but dedicated full-time staff. They don't have a complicated management structure. You have probably seen most of the team post here from time to time.

Re: new badges

Anyone else feel bad about dedicating an entire machine to run CEP WUs and nothing else, all for changing badge colors? It seems ironic that the machine is consuming "dirty" energy trying to find clean energy sources.

Not one bit. not talking
Nothing dirty about it.

Me either - I'm determined to get my sapphire for CEP phase I, which should be in just a few days.

Re: new badges

Next up we're seeing a thread opened on 'who's got most of the same colour', rather than the strength... currently 5 gold, but clients are working to make that 5 green. Think to have seen 10 blue shock silly drooling applause,

11 gold still beats that tongue

PS: A team mate, _Sunnyboy_ scripted this together from the xml's

Actually what took the longest was finding a break in the schedule where the work could actually be done. Once we arrived at that break, the actual decisions of what badges to make and the implementation went pretty fast.

We've seen the requests for the next set of badges, but it'll probably take as long again before we have time to get them in somewhere, and really, we felt adding the new 3 was more important than pushing it beyond that.

We have also considered the team badge concept, but will require more decision-making in addition to finding the time in the schedule.

As Didactylos said, there are few of us on the WCG Tech Team (and some of get pulled in other directions sometimes, too). We like to think of our development style as slow but steady. biggrin

Re: new badges

Thanks for the reply,

"slow but steady" is a good way to go. There is always more work than there is time.

Keep up the good work. I look forward to your improvements.

I have found an 11-blue in the stadium, and one 12-blue in the offices surrounding the training fields (our usual mega tester).

Nice job Sunnyboy_, and it confirms that Sapphire is still far enough as a goal for most participants, even in a large competitive team like DPC.

Cheers. Jean.
