I'm not back to work yet. Truth is, I haven't been rushing it either. I gambled that I could survive long enough to make full retirement and lost. Still, I'm much better off than most. I did have enough of a pension left to cover the mortgage payment and I don't have 14 maxxed out credit cards. So, given the principle of a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, I'm drawing my pension already. After first of the year, I'd probably have to start looking at cutting back but I could probably make it through next year okay if I liquidated my portfolio. The fact that my wife works and should this year match what I was making cearly helps too. I'm keeping busy catching up on a lot of the things I had to put aside while I was still in the salt mines and researching another career change. Truth is what I had to deal with is not unique to where I worked. The whole IT industry is so competitive that it's downright mercenary. I know lots of folks that are getting out if they can and even more that wish they could. I don't fit well in places anymore where you're just a commodity, an expense to be managed. That describes the bulk of the IT industry. I have a daughter that just started first grade, I have a good bit of time to put into a third career. Compost happens so you just have to see what you can grow.
