Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

http://www.arcticmission.com/arctic-mission-reaches-furthest-north/

So they set sail on the 14th of August and before the month is out they have turned around to come back home stopped by 678.5 miles of Sea Ice between them and the North Pole in the peak of Summer Melt

Back on the 14th Aug BBC News suggested that ...

"Melting ice in the Arctic means that, for the first time in human history, it may be possible to sail to the North Pole."

The answer to which is "No it isn't"

Currently as we approach the North Pole Sea Ice Minima there's 4,723,734 sq kms of Sea Ice surrounding the pole approximately half the area of the USA

Ice free I don't think so

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Well another year goes by and the sea ice at the North Pole at minimum was 4.47 million square kilometers in area or for perspective 1.36 times the area of India.

Al Gore in his 2007 Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech claimed it could be ice free at the North Pole in as soon as 7 years. This is clearly untrue, a wild exaggeration.

This last year we had a low peak ice at the north pole and I am sure those gunning for the claim the planet is warming alarmingly due to the concentration of CO2 being 0.04% of our atmosphere were happy and expecting new record lows.

Sadly, but only for them, we have had one of the smallest sea ice losses over the northern hemisphere summer in the satellite era record. Our planet's equilibrium maintaining feedback loops strike again.

Earth's climate stability is remarkable, maintained by cloud cover and it's reflectance (including hurricanes and typhoons) ice cover and it's reflectance and the heat capacity of our oceans and the land. Together these elements maintain the global temperature in a very tight band that allows us all to thrive.

Let's just hope the couple of pea brained rutting stags don't go ruin it for us all.

Dave

We're getting down on minimum of Sun activity...maybe those who predict weather should also check the space-weather?

Check more info here:
https://solarscience.msfc.nasa.gov/SunspotCycle.shtml

If we don't change something by the 2018., we're going to get pretty burnt by maximum of the Sun...which is expected around 2023. ;)
