Movieman,
The word may not be offensive to you in today's world, but to some people it is. We try to keep the language in the forums to a 'G' rating. :) Which means a mildly profane word is not allowed. Please understand that we try to keep these forums as kid friendly as possible. ErikaT meant no offence to you for your choice of words, but with our policies we are required to change it to something acceptable. Please understand our standpoint. Thanks, -Uplinger |

Thanks, -Uplinger I do understand you viewpoint but totally disagree. The word is used in daily interaction without negative context and also used many times in the Bible itself. Shall we rewrite the Bible to make it politically correct? Since the word seems to bother her senseibilities I won't use it but I think I've made my point that in this case and this word she's just plain wrong and this isn't the first time she's edited my posts. Your taking an approach to sanitizing even spoken speech so that no one could be possibly offended. The real world isn't like that and if people are that thin skinned then the issue is theirs not mine. I stand by what I said, that word is not profane by any reasonable definition of the word. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Movieman at Mar 20, 2010 2:45:46 AM] |

Hi,
----------------------------------------I did not see the concerned post before "edition" but I tend to share Movieman's opinion. Until now, I had never been shocked by Movieman's posts. His language is always appropriate. Otherwise I am regularly shocked by the arrogant behavior and statements from some participants. Instead to become angry, I simply ignore such posts. I cannot agree with this "hyprocrite" way to be "politically correct". In particular at WCG, we are a multicultural audience. Every of us has to learn to handle with the language and the culture of each other. This process is a voluntary process and it requests patience and respect. In the meaning of being "clean" we are loosing every "flavor". From country to country, from region to region, language, locution, behavior are different. We have to accept those as long as nobody will be offended. But every of us, by joining an international group like WCG has to be (to become) open minded to accept the others. I think that WCG moderators have better to do than to challenge each word used by the forum participants. It is my opinion. I know that it is probably not "politically correct" ! ... Enjoy crunching ! Yves |

Movieman, I do agree with you, and at least for me all your posts are in a perfectly appropriate language. And frankly I am more interested in the content instead of the format. But in old europe we may be less "politically correct" prone. Nevertheless and I understand uplinger, there is for sure somwhere a limit between what can be accepted or cannot. But where is it. It is impossible to define and for sure is different for each member. I have no idea myself, how what I say is percieved by others. I do accept that it can be very different, but that's life.
----------------------------------------I remember of a member a few months ago, who decided abruptly to quit WCG because he felt personally insulted in the forum. I tried to look through all the last threads and could not understand what was the post that caused this effect. I think we have to be tolerant between us and accept a critical comment from others if this happens and not take it too personally. What is very important is that the crtical comment be made in a constructive, polite and friendly manner. After that the fact that we can discuss it is already an excellent thing. ![]() |

You should be able to get at least 40,000PPD from the 980's Movieman, can you tell me how you do to measure your daily points performance. So that I can compare on a similar base for my dualie. When you mention 100'000 ppd or 40'000 ppd do you consider one specific project to crunch exclusively as a reference or is it a mix of projects. Are you doing an average on a week, less or more?. Or maybe I have to consider other things. ![]() ![]() |

Gentleman and ladies:
----------------------------------------It's done and I'll be darned if I use that darned word any time soon! ![]() Onto the important stuff. I generally run the cancer and AIDS apps but since this first connected to WCG it started grabbing the MD app and showing them as high priority so I figured they needed help on that project and let it run. It's eating those work units like a hungry kid at a ice cream stand. I think it was 289 of them in the last 36 hours. The numbers I use are based on daily work. Today I saw for 22 core days( out of a possible 24) a total of over 93,000 points. Now I lost some of the day as I got a little greedy and pushed the machine up to 4200 before I went to bed but didn't up the vcore(1.3875v) and woke up to that beautiful Intel blue screen. I extrapolated the numbers and had that been a full 24 hours the 93K+ would have been 101,977.. I can only talk so far about one day since thats all the machine has been up for but over time I'm confident it will do the 100K every day. Just needs another 100mhz to ensure that and that I can do. The 40K figure was to the guy asking what he should get on his single socket i-980x, and realisticlally much more than 40K can be done. One of my goals is to double the output of one of my team mates Fallwind who has a monster 6 core making app 55,000ppd Not sure if I can do 110,000 but it's a goal to go after. He's one of the dedicated people we have on the team and his machines are amongst the top producers project wide. This little journey is just beginning and I hope sone of you take the plunge and try this board with a couple top westmere chips. There is another advanatge here, electrical usage, especially for those where electricity is expensive. Consider this: My 2- 8 core harpertown systems do app 30,000PPD and draw app 320w each while doing so. Thats 640w for 60,000PPD This does 585w for 100,000PPD. Huge increase. Thanks for reading and for the support.. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Movieman at Mar 21, 2010 1:35:17 AM] |

Wish I had the cash to get 2 of those chips. Will wait till fall and see if the price drops. Am getting ready to change the mobo on my linux box with 2 quad 2.5 harpertowns and hope to OC them a little. Since I haven't OC before, been reading extreme system board to get some idea's on which board is best. Will definately build a new system this fall with i7 xeons. Hope I have the cash for those monster 6 core chips.

Hope I have the cash for those monster 6 core chips. You could get 90% of what I'm getting using thsi board and a cheaper pair of westmere's. Do the math and use 175BCLK to use for a multi.. X5650's for instance with a 21 multi and 175BCLK gives you 3675 X5670's with their 23 multi will do just what I'm getting with the X5680's as they are capable of more than can be done on air cooling. Then the L5640's at $775.00 each that have a 19 multi on turbo. That's one to watch. Jaco on the Xs team has one of those running at stock(2530mhz on turbo) on a single socket board and it's pulling 142w from the wall and doing over 30,000PPD..Exceptional With the X5680's 25 multi and using 175BCLK your at 4375 and water cooling is needed for that or a porch in Switzerland in the winter time. ![]() I've done 4500 for a short bench so the numbers are their to get. Seriously, it's a heck of a system and worth doing and as said, the electrical usage vs output is excellent. So many good options with these new 32nm chips to cut the timeframe to get the work done. That is all that matters, all the rest is fun and games. A last thought: Come to the XtremeSystems forum, register and come to the WCG section there. Read, learn and ask questions. We have very simple rules in that section: 1) Check your ego at the door. 2) Treat all as you would a friend. There is a reason why a lot of the top machines on the project are from this team. These guys just plain know what they are doing and share that knowledge to benefit all. I've leaned much from these guys over the past 4.5 years and if we can help you it helps us all to get this battle won. ![]() [Edit 4 times, last edit by Movieman at Mar 21, 2010 7:20:59 PM] |

I did register at Xtreme systems but am unable to post a question. Looked at the FAQ and didn't find what the requirements were. As for the L5640, who is selling this at that price? Google didn't turn up anything. I would snag a pair right now if I can get them at that price. Never OC a rig before but if I could get these up close to 3ghz, would be in heaven. Thanks for the info. Will hold off upgrading my mobo on for my harpertowns till I get more info on this. tnks
