Re: This is for bbover and the IBM guys ..

Can't wait to see the comparison. Intel has usually been ahead of AMD but when it comes to cost, AMD seems the way to go. Also think AMD will cripple itself by not selling at a profitable point. Hopefully movieman, you can test same amount of total cores for each brand at the same Ghz (one intel 6 core w/hyperthreading to two 6 core AMD).

It's going to be a while, cpu's arrive tomorrow and board could be another week but what I will be comparing is a X5680 system ( 12 cores/24HT) against a 24 core AMD dual socket system.
I'll try to keep it as fair as possible.

A week! crying This is getting just a bad as waiting for my iPad. Are the speed of the processors the same? Didn't think AMD chips went as high as intel.

Who will win?
Brute force (12 cores) or Finesse (12 fast optimized cores)

Re: This is for bbover and the IBM guys ..

So tempted to build a 4 socket AMD system with these 12 core babies. 48 cores on one machine crunching would be AWESOME! Just have to sell a few body parts to pay for it. shhh Anyone need a kidney? laughing

AMD just had a contest where they are giving away 4 of those cpu's and a Tyan board to go with it.
Yes I entered but I doubt I'll win.
Lot's of entries and odds so we'll make sdo with a dualie and no matter if it beats the Intels or is second to them it will do it's bit of work and cut down the timeframes needed till we find the cures.

Thats the most important part. But part of me believes that if and when they do find a cure, it won't come out totally because there is NO money to be made in cures. The governments want to keep the money machine churning which is so sad because of greed! crying
