Re: DDDT2 Project Badge Recognition Thread

I started one about 7 hours ago, that will be returned sometime Sundaynight CET I guess. Surprise for me, at least 1 box is "A" capable!

erlc_ c164_ ps0000_ 0-- In Progress 19-2-10 05:34:34 5-3-10 05:34:34

It's not a fast machine, but reliable. While the Badge will come slow, at least I'll see some progress in "Statistics By Projects" next week. biggrin

Re: DDDT2 Project Badge Recognition Thread

Hmm, do now the B types run out automatically, or do the results first get checked by the scientists...???

And how is it with the jump from B to C type? Is there a scientist review?

We will need to review A results before sending out B work, and review B results before sending out C work. Unfortunately, we do not work as fast or as long as your computers, so there may be some small delays.

Re: DDDT2 Project Badge Recognition Thread

have 2 of my 4 computers with each running one of these monsters... hopefully they will report them and help release some b units quickly.. unfortunatly for me being i only have 4 computers and with the rate of these PS work units i expect probaly 40-50 hours each so untill i crunch these i am probaly going to be workin on my AIDS badge a little more and let some of the smaller work units show up before i try for my badges. good luck everyone on your badges and hope i get mine soon

Re: DDDT2 Project Badge Recognition Thread

totto,

very good question.

At this point, we are packaging the work units into groups of 25. Once 25 of them have returned or finished due to error :( we send the results back to the researchers for them to process and create the type B work units. Once the type B's are created they are then downloaded by us and we build them into BOINC work units for the members :)

As you may have seen the few errors being mentioned (exit 29). These were not caught originally but the researchers are going to modify their build scripts to catch this in the future. Probably not in time for the next target, as this is not an easy analysis of the results.

Same with B to C. Type B batches will have about 50 work units. Type C will have over 6000 work units.

Hope this helps,

Uplinger, Stan,

thanx a lot for your quick and detailed reply. One more question: The scientist review, what is the about-estimate time herefor? Are we talking about a day, or a week?

I guess, the first 25 A-type package should be completed by now, and you shurly know, how hot all WGC members are, to crunch new WU's...

Can you forsee, when we can expect the first C-type WU's? smile

Re: DDDT2 Project Badge Recognition Thread

totto,

That looks like 2 questions to me :)

The turn around for results could be as quickly as 24 hours. We do not like to put time requirements on these things as we do like to sleep (unlike computers) :)

We are expecting 2-4 weeks before the type B work units will show up. This could be sooner, but only time will tell. After the first B work units start, I expect about 1-3 weeks for them complete and C to start. So about 3-7 weeks before type C show up. Hopefully we'll be closer to 4 weeks. But again, estimates and things are dynamic with a grid :)

Re: DDDT2 Project Badge Recognition Thread

Uplinger,

first of all: sleeping is totally overrated!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin

OK, so I need one last information to complete my short- to medium-term crunching plan: Will A-type WU's follow in the mean time, or are they already all out? With other words: Does it make sense to await new A-types?

I guess this information is not only for me interesting... cool

As you know, badge-hunters are pertinaciously... smile

Re: DDDT2 Project Badge Recognition Thread

No kidding, totto73... I don't remember seeing 20 members browsing one thread before.

I'm going to crunch NRW-only until it hits sapphire, so I may not get any type A's at all. :-|

Re: DDDT2 Project Badge Recognition Thread

Zoso,

due to the fact, that the A-types are extremly rare anyhow, you IMHO do the right thing. Also, with the short C-types, it is easier to gain the higher badges, because the risk of late validation is much smaller.

How many days are missing for your sapphire badge?

Re: DDDT2 Project Badge Recognition Thread

Type A work units will be coming over the course of the whole project. We do not have all of the prerun work units yet. So, while there will be some Type C work units, there may be a new target started, meaning more type A's. With 18 targets planned. "erlc" is the target by the way :), we have more type A work units on the way.
