thanks gb009761, I was about to say something similar. But I think there will be more "make-up" work than you estimate. Because of the nature of this project, it will actually have work available longer after the last of the new work is released. which is why i have said i imagine there will be work for probably 21 days after the last of the new work has been released. Although members will start seeing messages of no new work available more often towards the end of the 21 days.

I think that there are some who are considering making a run for the next level or not. They could use some good info to make the call. Its the intermittant part that makes the decision hard. -Uplinger ![]() Cheers ![]() ![]() |

If it's only I7-980's doing the 120,000 seeds needed per protein simulation there will be allot less work-units to fill that requirement than P4's. If that number is not met more work is being generated. That's why we sometimes see No Reply work not resend and sometimes we do.
----------------------------------------The batch numbers are really the one to watch... once 627 is being circulated we know that there will be fallbacks some 6-10 below i.e. batch 617-626 work will still be circulating and who knows even further back... think that's hard to tell. For the buffer computing and scheming see the End Game thread in the RICE forum. My bet is that there is at least 5 full days more supply before seeing "no work for this project..." starting to appear ever more frequently... but not if desperation starts to strike and the impossible is being aimed for. Then we might also see more aborts coming back to the point that a portion of those have to be resend again to get to that 120,000, which is what Uplinger is pointing at... The nature of this project. It's hard to tell for him how much that would be... since it's members and assigned devices in larger numbers playing the odds. The project performance chart still shows fairly flat/normal returns. 1.9 Euro cents edit: Think in summary it's very hard for Uplinger to commit to exact numbers and am sure we're going to see posts to tell that 00627 is being received, or not ;>)

Seeing as NRW is still sending out work to those clients that are set to do Any Project, it seems that those of us setting it as our exclusive project have not overcome the percentage of grid computing power allocated to this project.
----------------------------------------Based on this, whether or not I crunch NRW exclusively really has no affect on the end date of this project; if I drop off, my computing power will be replaced by more WUs sent to those Any Project clients, thus the same project end date will be reached. So regardless of whether I think I can make the next badge or not, (which I'm a little doubtful about) I'm going to make a run at it anyway. Edit: corrected typo. Sek put it very nicely. It is hard to commit to such numbers of exact. The last report I received at mid day showed 3.8 days left of work. Now this is not exact as I said with the distribution of work units for this project, this could actually be more. And then even after the last of the new work starts, we'll still see a very good supply of work units for probably 7-10 days after that. Only when the last new work starts, members may start seeing "no new work available" from time to time. With it happening more towards the end of the 21 day estimate of how long I think the work will take for results to complete. Again, in this statement I say estimate, so it could be higher or lower, only the dynamics of the grid knows :)
Thanks again for everyone who has participated in this project! Now lets finish it off :) And add another completed project to the list! -Uplinger |

I'm not giving up, just noting that it will be close and I will be crossing my fingers the whole way.
----------------------------------------I find it interesting to note that my caches show a wide range of work units, from 597 to 614, and not in any chronological order. Some of the newer WUs I have acquired are in the 604-609 range, while the 610+ came a few days earlier. |

How work units are distributed are a little bit different for this project...compared to others like faah or hcc

Is the batch number located in the task name? One thing I have noticed is the project news/status page http://protinfo.compbio.washington.edu/rice/status.html hasn't been updated since September 15 2009 any chance someone can update it?

Yes, the batch number is located in the task name. Generally R00627_ is what you'll see.
