Re: DDDT-2 Work Unit distribution updated

Many computers simply didn't seem to have the memory/pagefile requirements
There are probably a few exceptions but I would think that, generally, machines with insufficient memory are also in the bottom of the list, i.e. older less powerful ones.

Re: DDDT-2 Work Unit distribution updated

...just got a new Type A with the shorter (8day) time. Checked that it has a replication of 4 with quorum of 2....due to return in about 42 hours at the moment....

Re: DDDT-2 Work Unit distribution updated

Since that will greatly impede the start of the B and C's, we have issued 2 additional copies for those workunits at higher priority and being sent to reliable hosts and therefore will have the reduced deadline of 8 days.

Since WUs sent with the 8-day delay have been sent to reliable hosts only they will most probably be all returned quickly and the 20-day ones will be simply eating (much) CPU time for no additional benefit except for badges. Therefore I think that participants with the 20-day WUs can reasonably consider aborting them if they don't like wasting CPU time.

I'm pretty sure that my machines are reliable (except for HPF2), and my WUs are all running already, and I beat my wingmen on all 5 WUs from round 1, AND I want a badge!

Since I got one of those 20 day deadlines - don't count on me aborting it or taking 20 days to turnaround :D

now my question is - if 2 results come back before mine, will the server abort? It will definately be in progress by that time; in fact it should be close to being done.

Quad isn't the fastest out there, but it ain't no slouch - and I beat my wingman too on the last one.

If your WU is already started it will not be aborted by the server.
For those not yet started when the quorum is reached I don't know if knreed has planned to get them aborted. Maybe he will tell us.

Regarding my comment it was particularly addressed to members hating the idea of wasted CPU time, be it theirs or somebody else's. In that case even if a 20-day WU is the first one coming back there will probably be an 8-day one returned for nothing. For people (like me) who consider that it is just a minor loss, then no problem (this distribution is a small one anyway).

Happy crunching all!

Re: DDDT-2 Work Unit distribution updated

I actually acquired a few as well and I'm working on getting this project in my stats. I have suspended other tasks to finish these ASAP. I'm on my way to getting a badge on this project now.

Well, I'm not so sure you is reliable... tongue

Your computer on the other hand is maybe within the WCG-requirements and can be counted as reliable. cool
