Re: At this rate

Hey eso, try this. divide the number of results returned by the number of days the project has been crunched, not the number of days the project has been running (intermittently)

That's not my point though. My point is this incredibly intermittent process of waiting for the researchers to provide us with WUs is just not going to work...

It's taken 3.5 months to produce 200,000 WUs out of 44,000,000

Uplinger urged to allow the scientists do their part, all in jest, my part is that I'll slash it straight in half to 30 years, since the quorum 2 as per the very first detail post on A/B/C says there are 22,108,000 results to compute, not considering any repair work or additional targets but for the 18 (excluding the test TS tasks).

Re: At this rate

My estimate:

project runtime /· workunits completed * total workunits = total CPU runtime

93.7 CPU-yrs /· 201,011 WUs * 44,000,000 WUs = 20,503.42 CPU-yrs

Yesterday WCG crunchers contributed 315.12 CPU years.

At that rate the 44,000,000 WUs can get finished in 65 days using the full power of WCG. Since there will be 5 projects running (6 when HFCC restarts), that would stretch the time out to 10-12 months.

If one reviews the project news, one will find that it states that "manual analysis and intervention required between each program [step]".

We volunteers are here to crunch work for the researchers and we are ready for them when they have work to drop in the hopper. Uplinger has sent them back enough work to keep them busy for now. cowboy

Cheers coffee

Re: At this rate

Not sure, 1 was still missing a few days ago.
The stat-page did not report any returns since. crying

So a cluster of 5 WU's is still waiting to be reported back to the researchers.

100 WU's will be available soon (50 x 2). biggrin

Re: At this rate

Well, after this while, 25.000 WU's will come available.

And

10 B's and later 2500 more C's. biggrin

About 10 days of work for each of us. sad

The missing WU's have been returned last saturday. Two results in the stats.

Re: At this rate

One question I have is what the requirements will be to crunch DDDT2 when we get into the "C" units. Many of my older crunchers only have 512M memory and didn't receive any workunits when they were available, only the crunchers with 1Gig or more got WU's sent to them. I am hoping they will relax requirements on the bulk of the WU's or I am going to need to buy a lot of memory to bring the old units up to 1 Gig?
