Re: Windows Launch still July 17th?

I refuse to install Linux just to be able to run this project. I will wait for them to support Windows.
That's my general advice, given in another thread.
My previous post was for those who do want to try Linux.
For CEP2 or for any other reason by the way. smile

Absolutely, JmBoullier. No prob. :) They should release a compatible version with Windows very soon as they have promised it for July 17. I will run other projects meanwhile.

If you have easily accessible "crunching only" machines, and have the time to play with VirtualBox, you can soon get CEP2 badges.

Been there, done that... biggrin Had a Linux CD laying somewhere for the last three years or so to tryout; and out comes Linux only CEP2! For me , it was a nobrainer; here was the excuse I was waiting for.

I finally opted to download the latest Ubuntu version (10.04) to test on an old rig. Installed like a charm and I was so impressed I decided to install it on a dual boot setup on one of my main rigs, and then a second one! tongue

My eldest daughter was so impressed by all the stuff easilly available she also decided to dual boot with it (and let me install Boinc HA!) he he he!

En route for the bronze! (at least)

That's not true, at least not in all cases. I run a GPU project (Collatz) with a daemon installation of BOINC under Ubuntu 10.04. Collatz uses the GPU while WCG runs on the CPUs.

Off topic, but the latest Ubuntu is way to social networky. *vom*

OMG, where is the news for windows? I'm tired of wasting my desktops on helping sick people. Just kidding, I'm going exclusive because I can be of more help in an opt-in only project.

Re: Windows Launch still July 17th?

I, like so many others, would really like to run some WU's for CEP2 but I'm starting to think that I might change one of my boxes over to Linux, just to get started (and some points added to the tally), the suspense is not doing me any good at all!!!

Can anyone who is running CEP2 under Linux suggest a viable set-up to run on a multi-core OC i7? Many thanks.

Can highly recommend Ubuntu 10.04 as mentioned in the success story above.
Installing BIONC from a package repository is easy peasy compared to the manually installing the prebuild BOINC daemon or compiling from source.

My current distro, CentOS, didn't came with pre-build BOINC. I've tried to build from source but didn't have the patience and time to sort it properly. Finally I did the manual daemon install from the prebuilt BOINC package, which is doable in one or two hours for the experienced Linux user.

Guess Fedora Linux works fine too, but you'd have to have weakness in liking that I guess. I do love struck , my first 486 box ran good'ol RH 5.0...

BTW, received some great help from he guy who maintains the Fedora BOINC package. I'd have to thank him again he put up with my fiddling with his initial port for BOINC to EPEL Maybe I'll retry when CentOS 6.0 is there. Hope it comes with a more recent libcurl.

Re: Windows Launch still July 17th?

I wish they would give us some idea of what is really happening. Tell us if they are going to do a beta for this or just the project and when it will start
