Man, that is COLD. On the contrary, I am proud to say that I am involved with WCG and contributed 43 TF. Hopefully you will feel that way too someday.

I am not sure why anyone considers anything on WCG to be "behind schedule" at all. This is a free resource they are offering to the scientific community. Any free resource will be over-utilized. For all I know, they should be doing less and saving on the electric bill. There is probably no way to compute the real-world value of this anyway in the research stage, fun though it may be for us to think that it is going to save the world. Or to put it another way, maybe the world would be better off if they spend six months more to get the science right rather than rush it out the door just to give the crunchers something to do with their PC's.

I am happy enough if my CPUs are crunching away, but I don't particularly care which projects they are working on. That is because I don't know whether it is better for humanity to cure some forms of cancer, childhood cancer, muscular dystrophy, etc., etc. And there has already been one Clean Energy project to give them something to work on. Is the marginal value of the next one greater than anything else they could be working on? I don't think anyone knows, so there is no point getting upset about it.

Actually, if you're looking for an excuse to do nothing, then there are two things you can do. The first is to go fishing, the second is to install an OS on your computer. In the mean time you can drink coffee or beer (Beer...? Did someone say Beer??), if you smoke you can smoke, you can eat snacks or do whatever lazy people like to do when they're busy doing nothing. So laziness is a pro, not a con to give Linux a try. After all, I did it too ;)

But for the more adventurous and curious amongst us I found two "on top of Windows" versions of Linux, they can really be installed as an app inside Windows (more or less like VMWare and VirtualBox, but then without the virtualization environment) , so also here there's no dual boot stuff or partitioning of your physical drive involved.
They can be found at Topologilinux.com and andLinux.org . I didn't try them myself, but I read the install instructions and they look pretty straightforward to install and you can continue using Windows while they're running.
