Re: Join The International Team

Been very busy lately with work...finally a weekend when I can rest though!

Jack, that solar system setup sound serious to me! :)
Unfortunately such panels are still a bit too expensive to be used so far up north as here in Sweden where it's mostly cloudy and half the year is covered with snow. :/

Wishing veryone a great continuation of the weekend!

Re: Join The International Team

Hey,
Been on vacation.
Bought a new condo with a gorgeous mountain view.
(90 degrees of rocky mountains)
Now just have to downsize our stuff and sell the house.

Re: Join The International Team

I realized my last post I didn't mention I was moving 4 hours south.
Work is the reason for the move.
However, believe it or not, it's actually going to be a bit warmer than where I live now.
Still cold still snowy, but I don't have to shovel! dancing
It's bizarre though, moving into a house, putting up solar, artificial grass...
Planned to do air conditioning, fencing and new high efficiency hot water tank this year.
Next year planned to finish the basement, making a 1250 sq foot house,
about 2000 sq feet.
Now we are moving into a 921 sq foot condo. My wife and I are in our 40's and I feel like I may never live in a house again.
Crazy how life works.
We have been toying with the idea of living in another country if we can retire in our mid 50's, as you can live cheaper in many places.
With the house it wasn't possible to keep it, with the condo, shut off the lights, turn off the water, and take off for 5 months.
Canada is gorgeous in summer, but after a week of snow, I'm ready to GO!

Re: Join The International Team

Wow, Jack, seems like you are really making huge changes in life!
Sorry to ear about the house - just as you had moved in and made great plans. :/

But as you write, leaving a house is much harder than leaving a condo. I live alone in a 700 sq feet apartment. But if you and your wife are in your 40's I'm sure you'll get the chance to live in a house again. You just wait, life may make a U-turn at any moment - for better or for worse. Not much one can do about it anyway.

At least you won't have to shovel! :)
I wish you and your wife the very best, stay safe, and goodnight from Sweden.

Re: Join The International Team

I'm not really all that broken up about it...
The low maintenance,
the freedom to travel,
and still even though it's not making me money when i sell,
SOLAR IS STILL WORKING!
Maybe others will be inspired.
Energy efficiency is still not on everyone's radar.
I counted 25 incandescent light bulbs (oh and perhaps more in the patio didn't look).
I still have a lot of CFL bulbs I can swap out with the LED bulbs from the house.
Just kitchen and dining room is 600 watts of incandescent bulbs,
and 3 50 watt halogen track light bulbs for 750 watts total.
6 13 watt LED bulbs and 3 FOUR WATT Track light bulbs.
That's 87 watts will all of them blazing...
As time and money permit I'll replace them all.
One of the people there told me it's like 40 bucks a month for electricity (water/sewer/garbage and HEAT are included in condo fees)

Re: Join The International Team

So last year the solar didn't kick in til i got the new meter on July 17.
During the summer built up a credit of about $86 (Canadian).
Well I shut down 2 computers after the ripples stopped rippling,
and my May bill (with my main comp still crunching) was TWENTY THREE CENTS.
I signed up for a program that people who want to buy green power,
can buy from me, and I get a 1.8 cent/KW bonus.
Supposed to have started this month, I'll see.
Made 900KW last month, sold back 500 of that,
and bought at night 180KW.
If I was to retire here, I would put in battery backup of some kind.
Oh well.
Fun while it lasted.

Re: Join The International Team

Wow, Jack, you are really into solar! :D
Right now I have no real opportunities for solar, but if I ever get to buying a house it would be nice to have!

Right now I'm paying of my mortgage to get rid of the dependency to the bank...I'll get there one day :)

Re: Join The International Team

One thing that makes me sad...
I had 4 computers crunching (I7 2600K, 2 I7 3770K and one older I forget)
I'm down to just one crunching, cuz i doubt there will be room in the condo.
I guess I'll have to look at some of the Tiny computers out there...
I guess it's a new adventure.
