Long time ago since last post, I see that at lease a couple more are active sill to some extent. That makes me happy to see although it is sad that it's not like back in the good old days.
----------------------------------------Reached a 20 year diamond badge for MCM, now I should probably concentrate on UGM for at least 20 years there too if I'll manage in the time left for that project. Pretty recently added a new cruncher - i7 870 with 8GB RAM. It does its thing pretty well :) Be well everyone! Woohoo, how nice with some activity here, and great to have you back here crunching Chris! :D
----------------------------------------The sad news...yesterday night the motherboard of my latest addition (8 thread i7 870) blew up and it still smells awfully in the entire apartment. :(( So I have no idea if any other components died as well or if they survived, but judging from the big black mark on the back of the motherboard and chassis motherboard plate...I must say it looks like a short circuit. The board must have bent slightly by itself so that two solder joints made contact via motherboard plate. All the brass distance screws were in place correctly so that is odd. But now when I think about it I believe that I did once have another motherboard form the Epox era fail in that very same chassis. Probably short circuit too. Perhaps the motherboard plate is a bit defectively shaped making some solder joints get dangerously close to it? Yeah, I should dispose of that chassis now. But my motherboard is fried :( And I have RAM and CPU that I have no idea if they are working or not. And what's worse is that socket 1156 boards are sold out everywhere or mighty expensive :/ I am probably better off selling the CPU as possibly defective but leaving the RAM for now and perhaps start planning for a newer socket instead... Always something in my way of crunching like I want to.
