Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Hi everybody,
the RAID battery in Ms Piggy (the fast storage array that sits right behind our upload servers) has just died. The RAID battery keeps the RAID card powered in case of power failure so it can finish writing out its cache. That way we don't lose or corrupt data in case of power failure. Our friends at FAS Research Computing have to switch Ms Piggy off to replace it. This operation is scheduled for 4pm EST tomorrow and it should not take more than 30 minutes, but we won't be available during that time. Please let us know in case you see persistent upload issues afterwards.
Best wishes
Your Harvard CEP team

If Murphy's Law is working, sometime between now and 4PM EST tomorrow you will have a power outage. Let's hope Murphy is on vacation. laughing
Cheers

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Another status meeting on the CEPDB release - this time with a bigger crowd to get feedback from the extended team. We also figured out a ways to make cross-table queries faster. Getting there :).

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Hi Sgt.Joe,
thanks for the encouragement - alas I think we would only have a problem if a disc fails and we have a power outage right afterwards.
Best wishes,
Your Harvard CEP team

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Quick heads-up: Our server outage will begin in 2h and will hopefully not last for longer than 30min.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Great news – we’ll get a new CEP team member early next year: Ed Pyzer-Knapp from Graeme Day’s group in Cambridge (the real one :)) has decided to join us and will finally add the systematic study of bulk/condensed phase properties to the CEP toolbox. We are all very excited about that and cannot wait to have him on board.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Laszlo is also back in town and is resuming his work on our little CEP crowd-sourcing project which will hopefully soon be ready for primetime as well.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

We gave another interview with a reporter this morning - the article will take a bit but we'll post it here once it is out.
