Keithhenry,
Thank you but not educated on how to determine if the paging is too much or not. Would be happy to have you poke around in my computer to see if it is operating most efficiently. Total kernel memory is 161072 paged is 80543 and nonpaged is 80534 and running stable on all 3 if that helps. |

The way windows works, just about any paging is too much.
![]() The simplest thing to check is the memory graph in windows task manager under the performance tab. If the memory usage is consistently well below the amount of physical memory installed, it is unlikely that you are paging. For a more detailed view, switch to the task manager processes tab. By default, you don't get paging information. Click view -> Select columns ... -> then check the Page Faults option. You may also want to check the Page Faults Delta. Significant non-zero values may indicate you are paging. There's a major caveat though ... the page fault count in Windows task manager includes virtual page faults, i.e. when memory is allocated and first referenced. This causes CPU overhead, but does not page to disk (which is the real performance killer). Windows does not break out real page faults separately nor does it show page stealing activity (both of which mean you are doing real paging to disk). <editorial comment> Once again, windows is 40 years behind in technology. </editorial comment> You can sort of derive the information by looking at working set sizes, but that's a whole 'nother can of worms. I've found that with CEP2, none of my systems handles more than one WU at a time well. Therefore, I allow WCG to restrict my machines to one CEP2 WU. Still, I should have bronze in a day or two. - D |

Judson, I mention checking that your computer is seeing the amount of memory installed for the rare case that you've had a stick go bad. Very unlikely but possible. Usually, you'll see something at start up that says how much memory it thinks you have. There should also be a way to pull that up while it's running but I forget exactly. As for paging, that's what happens when your computer needs more memory than it has. In that case, it uses the hard drive temporarily. A page of memory that isn't needed right now is written to the hard drive freeing up that space in memory. When that page is needed again, it is read back in off the hard drive. Thus the term paging. If you open task manager and go to the performance tab, you'll see the cpu usage and memory usage (how that's labelled depends on the OS version). If the number there for the memory usage is more than the amount of memory you have in the machine, it will be paging to the hard drive. Look to see if you have anything else running that you can shut down. This could be things like the program that remembers passwords for websites, IM clients, or other stuff that probably gets started on boot up.

darth vader and Keithhenry,
Thanks for the help. Based on what you have writen I am not using paging from the hard drive as have 6 gb's of memory and only using 3. The part about certain machines not playing well with CEP-2 it appears this machine I am having issues with is one of those so now running all projects but CEP-@ on it and it appears to be doing great. Unfortunately have lost about 200,000 points while figuring that out! |

Todays results by the way show that which should be low new normal for me. Fast approaching David Bell's ranking which I have in a way regretted as I knew he ment so much to the whole team. I never really had a chance to do that as a realitive newbie! It will not be at any rate until a couple days.
