Re: "The survivors"

It is my wife's computer that is down so I am trying to fix it for her--

Warning!
Do not give your wife a repaired computer. You will be in the doghouse forever.
/Warning!

Buy her the new one, and then use the old one for tinkering. (or crunching).

biggrin
Is that the voice of reason or the voice of experience?

With a GPU card this home build could do some serious crunching.
Something in the $200+ range, maybe a HD 7850 or 7950?
Will have to look at compatibility with BOINC.
That would bring the PC count to 6.
Never imagined having that many PCs.

Re: "The survivors"

Shhh...
Don't spread this around.
GFAM is the next project to end, and it will be pretty soon now (especially with HCC ending).

I've noticed that according to the SekeRob's chart, GFAM has dropped to 104 days.

After the Vina calculations against target classes #21 and #22 are finished, the GFAM project will go on a long pause (for probably a couple years).

So i'm running GFAM exclusively until i get the Ruby badge. wink

Re: "The survivors"

GFAM is a good choice.
There have been no BETAs since January 28th but I would expect to see a new project this year.
Myself, I would like to see more cancer and childhood cancer projects as I would run them exclusively.

Re: "The survivors"

I ordered a new pile of PC parts to replace my wife's last Gateway.
It's the last because she won't buy another since 2 have already failed.
FX-8350 Vishera 8-core unlocked 4.2 CPU, CPU cooler, SSD, ASUS mobo, 8GB Ram, case, PSU, etc...
Will add a GPU and fan controller panel later.
The case comes with 3 fans but will support 7 fans.
It's kinda warm here in Georgia so I'm overdoing the cooling.

Re: "The survivors"

A lot going on here.

Blackberry winter is over.

Had a problem with Windows Update, BSOD after updates were applied and it was rebooting.
Recovery from that was weird, did a Restore to an earlier point and it failed.
Windows did a recovery much like you would see if you powered it off without doing shutdown.
But the PC came up and works fine.
Now have reservations about applying the updates.

Saw a good deal on a 27" LED monitor so I ordered it.
It works great with the GTX 480 GPU on the i7.

My wife's new PC is not assembled because I have not found a suitable fan control panel, maybe that should be added later?

Found out that my everyday PC (AMD quad-core) motherboard will support a 6-core processor so may upgrade that to gain 2 new threads for WCG.

My Dell 2400 is a Pentium 4 2.4 and it supports hyper threading so I may upgrade the CPU to 3.06 to gain another thread.
I already have the chip to do that.

Have a problem with Lipitor causing back and kidney pain, it can do muscle and kidney damage, this kind of crept up on me slowly.
This is serious so need to find an alternative.
