Re: "The survivors"

I am totally frustrated with BOINC Android.

BOINC Android made some changes but they used an underscore in the hostname, which is in violation of the RFCs.
Because of that you can't do home network DNS look-ups--DNS does not accept an underscore in the name.
The WCG Status page seems to be able to track multiple device results correctly.
But everything downstream is negatively affected.
BTW, the hostname on the phone has a dash which is correct.
Some clown at Google Android is the prime suspect.

Maybe I'll set on my office deck and watch the deer eat my landscaping plants.
They seem to really like Hostas.

Re: "The survivors"

A couple of things I learned about WCGDAWS.

First the bad news.
If your PC is down for repairs there is a chance that WCG/BOINC will assign a new ID number but retain the same Device Name.
If that happens you will begin to get duplicate entries with the same Device Name in WCGDAWS.
To fix that edit the DeviceList.txt file and remove any old entries.
Do not leave any blank lines in the file.
Check the Device Info button to make sure it is correct.
You will most likely have to stop using the existing database and start anew.
My database had 177,000+ entries and the Delete Record button does not work for me.
The duplicate entries were in the thousands so it meant that fixing the problem was not an option.
I cut and pasted the old database files(.idx and .dat) into a new folder, which in effect starts a new database.
So far no duplicates.

The good news.
If you sort on WUID and scan down the list for WU=2 you will occasionally find some.
This is not a problem if you are running 2 or more PCs and the Device Name is different for each WU.
This indicates that for that WU you were your own wingman.
I am running 5 PCs and 2 Androids so it does happen for me at times.

I wouldn't want to be my own wingman. I know how undependable that guy is.

Summer is over when you get past July and August. Bring on some snow. biggrin

Re: "The survivors"

Undependable is the last word I would use to describe that guy.
Well, at least one of the last un- words.

Snow?
With Winter comes ice storms, downed trees, and power outages.
Be careful what you wish for.
Here in North Georgia [in the sub-suburbs] they have had people snowed in for a week.
I think the whole state has 1-2 snow plows.

Burno, living in the wilderness do you have 4-wheel drive or a snowmobile?
That may not be enough.
Even with 4-wheel drive I have been blocked in with large Oaks down on both ends of the street.

Re: "The survivors"

I enjoy sitting on the porch, watching the rain.
I enjoyed sitting on the porch watching it rain every single day in July.
I enjoyed sitting on the porch watching it rain almost every day in August.
I'm sitting on the porch watching it rain for the 3rd day in a row in September.
Don't seem to be enjoying is as much, lately. sad

I strung some extra beads on the abacus, and am now running 8 CEP2 work units at a time.
Seems to be running just fine. biggrin

Re: "The survivors"

grumpygrampy,

A couple of days ago it was 17F in Bettles, Alaska [population 12 in 2010], a new record low for the date.
And it is raining there now.

Running CEP2 on an overclocked i7 @4.5 GHz it takes 6+ to 10+ hours to finish one WU.
Ditto for an FX-8350.

I have nothing bad to say about Intel chips.
Not ditto for AMD.

Re: "The survivors"

It is quiet here in Georgia.
Without the rain the temperature has risen, but that won't last long.
Fall will be here in about 2 weeks, it is hands down the best season.

The FX-8350 is stable and online.
Still need to work on overclocking as the temperature at 4.0 GHz is 42C and bumping up to 4.1 GHz it rises to 52C.
I suspect that AMD Catalyst Control Center is upping the core voltage.

The Toshiba laptop i7-2670QM is experiencing BSOD about every other day.
Not much for clues why.
There were some entries in the Event Log indicating that Firmware was throttling the cores.
The temperatures are 20C below the 100C Tjunction.
I had changed power plans from Balanced to Performance about the time this started.
So I changed it back to Balanced.
Waiting a few days to see if that helps.

My Android is taking errors to the point that it may not be worthwhile to run WCG on it.
Maybe give it a break.
I don't think this is a permanent problem.

Wish WCG would do more Beta and GPU work.
Good luck everyone in getting new badges in the projects now running.

Re: "The survivors"

I'm not the only one experiencing errors:

Not seeing any progress in resolution.
