grumpygrampy passes 800,000 BOINC Credits
seems kinda low when you put it that way. i prefer Points Generated 5,609,384 (WCG Credits) or even better 5,609,384,000 (grumpy credits) ![]() |

Correction--
----------------------------------------It appears we used the wrong multiplier in a previous Milestones announcement. We regret the error. The announcement should now read: Milestones Yesterday grumpygrampy passed 5,609,384,000 (grumpy credits) ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

Started the day with "bootldr missing" on an AMD 8 core.
----------------------------------------SeaTools for DOS would not run the long test on the C: drive, which is an OCZ Vertex4 SSD. It appears that the SSD was no longer the first boot drive and the system had rebooted. No clues in the event logs. BIOS did not show the drive existed. That's a problem! After some BIOS changes BIOS showed the drive--but in the boot drive selection part of BIOS it was not available as a boot drive. That's another problem! As is typical with Windows, while troubleshooting the problem, it cleared, and I have no explanation for the cause or fix. Chkdsk passes and the system boots. I know I was not the cause but do take credit for fixing it. ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

...was makeing noise then stopped booting up ..
ain't working on pc's fun? ... the C: drive, which is an OCZ Vertex4 SSD. sounds like the drive is getting ready to fail, better call OCZ for support. Wait, what? Toshiba buys OCZ's belly-up SSD business: Where does that leave your warranty? http://www.pcworld.com/article/2068522/toshib...leave-your-warranty-.html oh. ![]() |

Toshiba buys OCZ's belly-up SSD business: "Reliable drive" is an oxymoron. Toshiba hard drives are not reliable so this will be a good fit. ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

nasher, I have 5 PCs and at one time or another they each have had issues. For example:
----------------------------------------The i7 laptop will overheat and throttle if it is not set to performance mode. The i7 desktop has an intermittent software problem that reports the CPU fan failing, which is not true. Open Hardware Monitor shows the fan running 1329-31 RPM and CPU temperature 60C so it has 40C to go before it is a problem. That PC has 6 case fans and a Noctua cooler with a fan, which is plenty of cooling. The FX-8350 CPU temperature jumps 10 degrees C when the frequency is changed from 4.0 to 4.1 GHz. That PC also has 6 case fans and a Cooler Master with 2 fans. The HP p6620f and Dell 2400 desktops have both had corrupted operating systems which required them to have Windows reloaded and all software reinstalled. In addition I have 2 dead desktop PCs and a dead laptop, all of them Gateway. ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |
