Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

Wow!. I just got me one of them BETA units.

This one has an estimated completion of 21 hrs, 15 mins. Yikes.

On my 60% occupied CPU, this will take 35 hrs + to run.

I hope the production units (fahb ?) are shorter.

Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

I got one on my laptop (i7), it is estimated completion 22 hours.

So your CPU time is right on.

What would be interesting is to get a BETA on your Abacus.

Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

Speaking as someone that has managed over the years to collect a few badges, I can say.

The more the merrier.

I don't care what color they are or what project they represent.

Enough is never enough.

How's everyone doing?

Cooler weather is here, time to crank up the space heaters we call PCs.

I have 4 PCs and 6 Androids running WCG.

Looking forward to some new projects, GPU would be nice.

Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

It gets slow around this time of year.

How about we join a January challenge?

Best part of a challenge is you don't have to do anything extra to do well.

Just finished converting the last 2 of 4 PCs to SSD drives.

Don't know if SSD helps crunching, but does wonders for boot time.

And then there is the prefetch and superfetch controversy; on or off?

Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

You have a nice collection of badges.

What do you think about participating in a challenge?

You don't have to do anything more than what you do now.

Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

Just finished converting the last 2 of 4 PCs to SSD drives.

I've got 4 pc's running 5 ssd's. (the abacus has a small ssd dedicated to the BOINC data directory.
This lets me run 6 CEP2 jobs without beating the main drive to death.

Don't know if SSD helps crunching, but does wonders for boot time.

Even on an old Gateway Pentium, boots windoze in 14 seconds.

And then there is the prefetch and superfetch controversy; on or off?

I've been known to prefetch coffee on a cold morning.....

What do you think about participating in a challenge

Count me in. What do we hafta do? When? Where? biggrin

Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

I have a 64GB SSD that is spare, you gave me an idea. It might make a good drive for paging and BOINC data. Based on what I have read it is difficult to wear out a SSD if you turn TRIM on and Defrag off.

I disabled prefetch and superfetch. Don't believe they are needed with SSD. I'm pretty sure that fetch also does not work with cats.

For the challenge to be a resounding success you will have to do nothing in addition to your daily activities. I can add the group to the challenge with a click. That's it. The challenge I am thinking of is for the month of January, total results returned if I remember correctly.
