rcc, the time has come for me to move on in spite of us being in a Challenge.
I'm a restless soul, and I need to trek somewhere else. You have three permanent members now - you are growing - you can walk - your teething problems are over and I'll keep an eye on *The Survivors* to see how you develop further. If you open up BOINC Manager, go to Advanced->Preferences, go to the "Processor usage" tab, and set "Switch between applications every" 7200.00 minutes; BOINC Manager will magically start prioritizing everything correctly.

gretchch, thanks for the tip about 7200 minutes. I would never think to try that. I did try 0.00 thinking it may equal no restrictions but it won't let you set it to zeros.

The results are in and we are still #5 in HFCC and #7 in HCC.

This started with the 6.10.x level of BOINC. They must have made some more tweaks to the scheduler algorithm that caused this. It usually happens when you have a large work queue - more than 2-3 days it seems. Changing the value for Switch between applications to any fairly large number forces BOINC to think there are tasks that won't make the deadline and it starts running everything high priority. This seems to force it to crunch the oldest WUs first. There can be other implications if you crunch multiple BOINC projects along with WCG. Once your work queue gets worked down, you shouldn't need to do this and can set it back. As for the size of the work queue, I usually run 3-3.5 days as that is the longest the WCG servers were ever down (during a blizzard one Xmas years back). I'll bump it up when there's a DDDT2 shower here.

keithhenry, thanks for the info. I had about 38 hours scheduled per day per core. I had to abort most of it to get it down to where it was not missing the deadlines. My quad core is running at 100% and I have not changed that. I will probably not load additional days in the future. The challenges are fun but I would rather spend my time working on recruiting new crunchers. Find recruiting to be difficult work.

... The challenges are fun but I would rather spend my time working on recruiting new crunchers. Find recruiting to be difficult work. Indeed it is, rcc, and I'm not sure I understand why it is so.You have nothing to loose by joining a team, you may have lots to gain - new friends to mention one thing - and if you don't like it, you can alway leave. So what is holding all those teamless members? And what is holding people who don't even crunch yet from joining WCG. In my Base Camp on WCG Facebook group we got two members,  one of which committed himself to joining WCG when his dead computer had been replaced  Encouraging to me.  |
