On rare occasions i've noticed my browser seems to lag a bit. When i check, there's usually a BOINC upload in progress.
I have ATT DSL rated at 1.5Mbps - measured today at 1.27Mbps download, and 0.25Mbps upload. http://www.att.com/speedtest/ Out here in the boonies, they never heard of Fiber (except in cereal), but we've been promised lectricity and indoor plumbing coming soon. ![]() |

grumpy,
----------------------------------------I see you have another new badge, #9. Whatever you are doing, it's working. I was living in the boonies on the shores of Lake Lanier. Had all of the modern conveniences; '63 Ford pickup truck, bass boat, well water, septic tank, etc... Had to drive 16 miles to do anything, even buy a postage stamp. Gave up all of that to live in the city. But it doesn't look like the city. Dixon Creek in the back yard, lots of mature trees, and plenty of wildlife. All of the modern conveniences; F-350 V10 4x4 pickup truck, VoIP/Internet/TV over fiber, home office, less than a mile to the nearest postage stamp or anything else, etc... ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

My speeds usually test somewhere between 2Mb/s and 2.6Mb/s download, and 600Kb/s and 700Kb/s upload. It is supposed to be 3Mb/s down and 768Kb/s up. It's the best I can do in the "boonies" where I live. Before I could get DSL, I had satellite internet, but the built-in latency caused by the speed of light making 4 trips to the satellite played havoc with the VPN I needed for work, so I was glad to get rid of it when the DSL was finally available.

CEP2 is the only project at this time that has huge data and disk requirements.
----------------------------------------Like you stated, if you throttle back the CEP2 data transfers they should not have a significant effect on your browser. I have not been able to catch a CEP2 upload to determine the size. Tomorrow if I have time I will suspend network activity so that they show in the BOINC Manager Transfers. There are CEP2 tasks running on each PC so it should be easy to catch some. ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

Whatever you are doing, it's working.
I have discovered a secret way to accumulate badges: [ Crunch, Upload, Validate, Repeat ] Don't disclose this or everyone will want to try it. |

I have seen a CEP2 upload take over 5 minutes on my 768K upload DSL line. Once i throttled the upload speed to 1/2 that, they sometimes take 10 minutes

gretchch,
----------------------------------------But isn't upload time insignificant in the crunching? As long as the BOINC Manager does not impact your use of the PC you should be good. My PCs are set to squeeze out every work unit they can so I can appreciate wanting to make use of every CPU second. The only possible way to get more CPU time is to add another CPU. And I am considering buying a laptop to replace my Gateway Pentium 3 800 Mhz boat anchor. It won't communicate with the network and I am tired of the problems. grumpygrampy, I think you are on to something. little mermaid, I see you have a new SNURK signature and have found a home with a whacky team. Not that we are not whacky, just not as much so as your present team. ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

Yes, I agree that the upload time is insignificant, now that I have throttled the upload speed. It was definitely not insignificant before that
