Re: "The survivors"

never really overclock anymore.... last time i really overclocked was with a apple ][ computer from 800Hz up to a bit over 2Khz... back then you didnt have to worry about fans even.... just every 6 months you had to replace the CPU for less than $5

Re: "The survivors"

gretchch,
The mobo is a GigaByte GA-Z68M-D2H http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3947#ov
Newegg is sold out on them.
I like the features in the Intel Z68 chip set but there is probably something newer available.

Re: "The survivors"

nasher,
I didn't know you could buy anything from Apple for less than $100.
$5 for a CPU is a steal.

Re: "The survivors"

I have the I7-860, which is a generation older now that sandy bridge came out.
I don't overclock because i just can't type that fast.
Pulling about 108 watts running at 60%, (i know, i'm too conservative)

So typing speed--not temperature--is the big limitation!
For running at 60% you are doing very good on collecting badges.
Effectively you are running the equivalent of 4.8 cores.
Looking at results it doesn't show that you are running at a reduced capacity.

Re: "The survivors"

the reason you could buy it from Apple back then is you didnt have to buy it from apple it was the same chip that the Atari 400& 800 used as well as Commodore 64 and 124 the 6502 a or b or c they could each be used they started off at $20-25 and the price dropped from there...

talk about old school computers

Re: "The survivors"

Just finished reading the book After The Cancer, What now??? by Darrell Smith "The Miracle Man"
It is a trip down memory lane for me.
Very few good memories, but there are many similar experiences.
I must give Mr. Smith credit as he did an outstanding job of living through 14 years of cancer hell.
In 1998 he was given a few hours to live.
A true survivor, he went on to overcome two terminal colon cancers.
If you are looking for hope and inspiration this book is for you.

Re: "The survivors"

19 F in Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina this morning. My daffodils had actually started to bloom this week, and my pear trees had budded. I'm afraid it's the end for the flowers for both. The pear trees are really very "stupid" trees -- the flower buds get killed 2 years out of three because they will start to bud the minute it gets warm. rolling eyes
