Has anyone tried either of these software caching schemes?
----------------------------------------PerfectCache http://www.raxco.com/home/perfectcache_workstation.aspx 30 day free trial FancyCache http://www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/fancy-cache/index.html Beta version has a 90 day free trial My i7 has the Z68 Express chipset with Intel Rapid Storage Technology and an SSD/HD system. http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/chipse.../z68-express-chipset.html I believe that the cache software above is similar to the rapid storage technology. Therefore can't be certain that there is any advantage to me by adding the cache software. But, the cache software may help improve performance for a team member. Any opinions? My i7 is presently putting out 67 GFlops using the Intel RST.. To find your GFlops go to the Statistics tab on BOINC Manager and divide the host average by 100. My i7 host average is 6726.43 = 67 GFlops (this number varies throughout the day) ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

Downloaded PerfectCache to my HP AMD, a quad core at 2.8GHz.
----------------------------------------Presently this PC is doing 16-19 GFlops with WCG running 100%. Turned on deferred writing mode with Lazwrite latency 5 sec. Time will tell if this is an improvement over W7 cache. ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

gretchch, congratulations on the snail!
----------------------------------------I am crunching other projects and will eventually get one. I took a few errors on PerfectCache after installation but it has settled down. Here are two examples: 2/27/2012 8:16:23 PM | World Community Grid | Task E206344_981_C.24.C19H11N3OSe.01208183.3.set1d06_0 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file 2/27/2012 8:16:23 PM | World Community Grid | If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. 2/27/2012 8:16:23 PM | World Community Grid | Task GFAM_x2bl9Pvivax_DHFRdry_0008595_0233_1 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file 2/27/2012 8:16:23 PM | World Community Grid | If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. 2/27/2012 8:16:23 PM | World Community Grid | Restarting task E206344_981_C.24.C19H11N3OSe.01208183.3.set1d06_0 using cep2 version 640 2/27/2012 8:18:26 PM | World Community Grid | Restarting task GFAM_x2bl9Pvivax_DHFRdry_0008595_0233_1 using gfam version 611 After a few days it should be obvious whether this program is of any benefit. ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

To find your GFlops go to the Statistics tab on BOINC Manager and divide the host average by 100.
It looks like my Abacus averages about 13 to 14 GFlops. ![]() |

Grumpy,
You think you're bad, my pencil and paper only averages 6.8. I always knew I was a "G" Flop. |

Every Flop counts!
----------------------------------------Thanks for sharing the extra Flops and unused CPU cycles. I saw on another thread that some team had reached 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 somethings. They miss the point of what's important. Donating wasted CPU time is where it's at. Buying a home based server farm just to win bragging rights is not. There is a team with 24,500 members. How big does the farm have to be to beat them? ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

grumpygrampy,
----------------------------------------If I remember correctly you are running your i7-860 at 60%. Running at 100% would produce approximately 23,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 yoctoFlops. Give or take a zero or two. ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

Alright already. It's obvious i need a more powerful computer.
I've just ordered one of these : Fujitsu K supercomputer currently the highest-performing supercomputer in the world, with a maximum speed of 10.5PFLOPS and a total of 705,024 cores. Should arrive in a few weeks... Read about it here: http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/120071-how...-saves-on-power-and-money |
